Thapar University BTech Eligibility & Highlights 2026
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology BTech is a four-year undergraduate degree course, divided into eight semesters and offered in full-time mode. Admissions can be taken by presenting a valid JEE Main score. Class 12 performance is also taken into consideration. Students who have passed Class 12 with at least 60% with PCM/B are eligible to apply. Reserved category candidates require a minimum of 55% marks.
Thapar University BTech courses are spread across various specialisations. Some of the specialisations are, BTech in CSE, BTech in Biotechnology, BTech in ECE, BTech in Biomedical, BTech in Mechanical, BTech in Electrical Engineering, and more.
The institute also offers an International Engineering Program in collaboration with University of Queensland in five specialisations. In this course, candidates will spend two years of their curriculum at Thapar University and the rest are spent at University of Queensland.

Yes, admission in Thapar is based on 12th marks for some seats/rounds, but branch allotment depends on your percentage and the available seats. Top branches like COE/CSE usually get filled through JEE-based admissions first.

As far as I know, Thapar hasn't announced the 2026 lateral entry admission schedule yet. The best option is to keep checking the admissions page regularly because they usually post all updates there first. I do go with Thapar. A friend did M.Sc there and had a good experience with faculty and research exposure. VIT is also good, but personally I'd rank it Thapar > VIT > Banasthali for M.Sc Chemistry.
