Good Department of SPPU.
Placements: Since this course is new and subsequently the department is also new, campus placements are almost nonexistent here. However, the experiences and knowledge you gain from this course are enough to land you a couple of internships during your tenure here. Also, it is compulsory to do a dissertation project in your final year, which also fetches you research internships. Now, when it comes to jobs, almost no student wants to go directly into the industry after this graduation. Everyone goes for further studies after graduation in the research field only. Also to be noted is that this is a heavily research-oriented degree. Meanwhile, if you want, you will get low-paying jobs in the pharmaceutical or polymer industries if your major is Chemistry or EVS, but that happens rarely as simply no student wants it. Also, Earth Science majors may get placed in the geoinformatics industry provided they have sufficient industry-required programming skills.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our department and course is good. The labs are small but well-equipped with the necessary equipment. Classrooms and lecture halls are large and spacious with smart board technology. The entire department has free Wi-Fi, which anyone can access. Also, the computer lab is open to all. There is a small library in the department itself, which honestly won't suffice your needs. You need to go to the main Jayakar Library of the university, which is the best. It has all the books you need and a whole separate building dedicated to study halls. The hostel is a bit dicy here. The girls hostel is fine, and all things are manageable. However, the boys hostel is a whole lot of mess. They don't have sufficient beds and rooms to accommodate all students. So most of the boys don't get hostels and need to reside as guests or find a nearby PG. Also, the hostel allocation system is weird, and no one knows what its basis is. The canteen services at the university are pretty good. Overall, there are 2 food courts, 1 canteen, and 1 mess in the whole university. You can go anywhere you like.
Faculty: All the professors and teachers are really helpful. All are qualified enough to teach you. They will provide you with all the assistance and opportunities you require. This curriculum makes us ready for the research field in science. The exams are moderate to difficult in our course. Students who fail do need to clear backlog exams.
Other: This course is for anyone who loves science. In the first two years of the course, you need to study a blend of all the subjects, and in the last year, you need to study your major subject only. Also, this course has affiliation with the University of Melbourne, Australia, which gives us an extra edge worldwide. Also, as per the recent NEP, our course will be a 4-year BS degree soon. Every year, our annual festival, Parna, is organised and celebrated. Also, the various societies and clubs regularly conduct events in the department.
