B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2029
Offered by NIT Surathkal - National Institute of Technology

Insights of NIT Karnataka.
Placements: Nitk mechanical is the best among all NITs in the QRF ranking. It has a placement rate of about 85 percent. Major core companies that came for placements this year were Apple for mechanical with a minor in ECE, L&T, Bajaj, Suzuki, ONGC, and HPCL. IN 2025 the average package for mechanical is 15 LPA. Internship opportunities are abundant across branches with a stipend of roughly 20k to 1 Lakh per month and many PPOs.
Infrastructure: Mechanical depth of Nitk has one of the best infrastructures among all departments. It has all the research related facilities, specialized labs like CAD/CAM, Internal combustion engines, and advanced research labs in areas such as strength of materials, robotics etc. Hostels have double and triple sharing rooms with 2 common washrooms on each floor. Ethernet facility for the internet.
Faculty: Nitk has very experienced faculty members. Associate professors specializing in areas like advanced manufacturing, composite materials, tribology, machines design. The course curriculum is designed in a way that makes a student industry ready. The first 3 semesters of mechanical are a bit easy. It gets difficult after the 3rd semester.
Other: I chose this course because I am very interested with automobile. NITK has the best mechanical department among all NITs. There are 3 cultural fests that are conducted every year. The main annual fest is Incident which is held in March.

B.Tech. in Bio-Medical and Robotic Engineering - Batch of 2028
3.8
3Placements5Infrastructure4Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life3Value for Money
Our college doesn't have placements from 2024.
Placements: Placement percentage is around 40-50%. The salary packages offered are the highest package is 32 LPA, the average package is 4.75 LPA, and the lowest is 1-2 LPA. Top recruiters are Infosys, Wipro, TCS, IBM, and Accenture. Internships' exact percentage is not published. Some internships are reported with Wipro only. Top roles offered are software engineer, graduate engineer trainee (GET), systems engineer, IT/technology analyst.
Infrastructure: The University of Mysore provides good academic facilities for the B.Teach in Biomedical and Robotics Engineering, including campus-wide Wi-Fi, well-maintained classrooms with projector support, subject-relevant laboratories for electronics, biomedical instrumentation, robotics, and embedded systems, and a large central library with ample books, journals, and digital resources. Hostel facilities for boys and girls are available and are decent and comfortable, though basic in nature. The mess food is average in quality and affordable, with canteens offering simple meal options.
Faculty: Teachers are well qualified, very helpful, and knowledgeable. The quality of teaching is also good. Semester exams are generally described as moderately challenging, requiring consistent preparation rather than last-minute cramming, and the pass percentage is reported to be fairly high, though exact rates differ by department and exam difficulty. In our department, it is quite easy.
Other: I chose the Biomedical and Robotics Engineering course because it uniquely combines engineering with healthcare and emerging technologies like robotics and automation, offering a wide career scope and opportunities for higher studies and research. The best aspects of the course are its interdisciplinary nature, exposure to both biomedical instrumentation and robotics concepts, and the strong theoretical foundation that allows students to shift into IT, core engineering, or healthcare technology roles. I have an interest in Biology also.

It has really good infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: Top recruiting organisations include hospitals, rehabilitation centres, special schools, research institutes, etc. For my batch and course, recruitments and placements are pretty good. Many students also secure internships within the course, mainly in AIISH itself and affiliated hospitals. Nearly 90 percent of students complete clinical internships.
Infrastructure: We have high-quality Wi-Fi, labs, classrooms, a library, etc. The hostel is good. The food is amazing. We support a lot of sports and activities. The quality of facilities in the hostel is quite good. The mess and the food, everything is pretty good.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful. They are qualified and knowledgeable. The teaching quality is good. Teachers are graduates from famous government institutes, which are really prestigious institutions like AIISH itself. They are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Other: I chose this course because it assures us a safe scope and opportunities.

Traumatised, but a very fair review given.
Placements: Placements in college all depend on circumstances. My seniors got the opportunity to interview for a lot of companies, but for my batch, only one company came. Later, the professors do send job opportunities in WhatsApp groups, but they are jobs in Mysore and some in Bangalore.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is worth the amount of fees you pay. The administration office is frustratingly slow and poorly managed, requiring long waits even for basic tasks like registration, payments, or obtaining a certificate. But I guess most colleges in Karnataka are like that. I've heard the hostel food is horrible in the girls' hostel. The hostel is very (understandably) restrictive; the college makes sure the girls are very safe. I wouldn't recommend the hostel for older, mature and responsible women. The canteen has basic food that is very affordable.
Faculty: I would recommend this college to Kannada people. Non native Kannada people don't even set foot near this place. Around half of the teachers teaching for a course teach in Kannada. The student demographic of the college is mostly people coming from an underprivileged background who didn't have the resources to learn English or the environment to push them to learn English. I also won't elaborate here about the professor who subjected me to counselling rooted in backward, regressive ideas, which caused me significant trauma.
Other: My rating is based on my experience learning in this place for 2 years, and it has ended up giving me trauma and hatred towards the subject I picked.
