BIHER ties up with Ural Federal University for Summer Internship Programme

Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER), known for science and technological studies, ties up with international universities across the globe. This time, the institute has entered into a strategic alliance with Russia-based Ural Federal University. As a part of this alliance, BIHER organised an International Summer Internship Programme which was scheduled for a duration of one month from June 29-July 30 for engineering students.

Bharath University - Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER), known for science and technological studies, ties up with international universities across the globe. This time, the institute has entered into a strategic alliance with Russia-based Ural Federal University. As a part of this alliance, BIHER organised an International Summer Internship Programme which was scheduled for a duration of one month from June 29-July 30 for engineering students. The aim of the programme was to support students get better employability in the engineering sector. This Program was an initiative towards building bridges of mutual respect, marking the beginning of this new era. This programme also helped students to understand and celebrate cross cultures.

Both institutes signed a Memorandum of Understanding which laid down the basis of their alliance. They agreed on following collaborative activities in the academic areas of mutual interest, on the basis of equality and reciprocity. It was decided that:

  1. The exchange of Faculty for the mutual benefit of both institutions,
  2. Collaboration in teaching, research and development and consultancy studies in the field of mutual interest,
  3. The exchange of academic materials and publications,
  4. Conducting Lectures,
  5. Undertaking Joint Research,
  6. Involvement of Staff for purposes of curriculum development and review
  7. Participating in seminars, symposiums and other types of academic discourse
  8. Co-Supervising Post-Graduate students,
  9. Conducting Study Tours and Joint Consultancy Work.

Mode of Selection

The students were selected based on their performance in an online aptitude test. Based on its result, merit, academic excellence and overall performance nine students out of 150 were selected for this programme.

All the expenses for this entire summer internship programme for nine students and one faculty member was borne by the management of BIHER through funds from career development scholarships.

The summer internship programme

The programme was divided into three phases:

Phase-I : Pre-Departure programme: Involved meeting with students participants and their parents to educate them about student’s safety, responsibility, currency, appropriate clothing as per climate, luggage, food and other necessary information. This was relevant for those who have never travelled overseas before.

Phase-II: The study tour: This outlined the issues, challenges, benefits and opportunities that a study tour can bring. It was a four-week programme which included relevant industry visits and cultural experiences. At the end of this programme, students submitted a project report about their learnings.

Phase-III: Post Tour Debriefing: The post tour show served as positive promotional tool for future study tours as new participants had the opportunity to see the outcome of the students returning to the study tour, facilitating them with a clear understanding of what to expect when they embark on the trip.
