Extracurricular Activities in SASTRA Deemed University

One of the main purposes of extracurricular activities at SASTRA Deemed University is to help students grow with a broad range of experiences.

There are two big events Kuruksastra and Daksh in SASTRA Deemed University that motivate students to engage and also enjoy.

Through effective teaching, SASTRA Deemed University provides modern and versatile programs with a variety of inter-disciplinary courses to a diversified group of students. It is creating Academic Research centres in particular areas to solve global concerns and requirements. 

Importance of extracurricular activities

One of the main purposes of extracurricular activities at SASTRA Deemed University is to help students grow with a broad range of experiences. These activities have a  favourable influence on students' psychological, cognitive, cultural and interpersonal development. Students realise the importance of critical thinking skills, goal setting and students' intellectual competency through participating in these extracurricular activities. By working with diverse groups of people outside the classroom, students develop self-confidence, flexibility, and respect for others' similarities and differences.

Participating in sports activities, clubs, volunteering, and part-time activities is a wonderful chance to meet, have fun at university and maintain a good balance between academics and social activities.

Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy or SASTRA Deemed to be University is one of the popular deemed to be universities in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. SASTRA University has been ranked 26 under the 'University' category by the NIRF in 2023. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited SASTRA Deemed to be University with A+ grade. Talking about the placements, according to the NIRF report 2023, SASTRA University recorded 88% and 81% hiring rates for BTech and BA LLB (Hons.) students during SASTRA University placements 2022. The median package offered to MTech and BA LLB (Hons.) students was INR 5.50 LPA and INR 4.50 LPA during placements 2022, respectively.  Check below what students have to say about SASTRA University:

Various clubs organised by students help them experience new things. The clubs are:

Popular Events

The university organises both inter-college and intra-college events.

Kuruksastra

Kuruksastra (KS) is the largest competition in South India for promoting known talent and bringing the undiscovered potential of the student to the centre of attention. Arts, music, literature events in English, Tamil and Hindi, and dance are all featured in the event. It is a spectacular distinct combination of art, style, grace and dynamism. At KS, top schools from all over India fight for the title of ultimate champion. The Pro concert featuring renowned artists, who can genuinely set the stage blazing, is KS's main highlight. Celebrities like Sid Sriram, Shankar Mahadevan, Crazy Mohan, Benny Dayal and Naresh Iyer have always made adoring audiences want more. This event occurs once a year. This event takes place for over three days at the end of February.

Daksh

Daksh is the SASTRA Deemed University's international level techno-management festival. It is an annual celebration event that features a range of events combining all disciplines. It goes beyond academics and lectures in terms of knowledge to not only be instructive but engaging for everyone. The event gives students from all across the world, an opportunity to showcase their creative abilities. Participating in a range of engaging activities, incredible motivational speeches and socially responsible events help students achieve their goals. This event occurs once a year in mid-February.

Plasma Compendium

Plasma Compendium is a non-profit student group dedicated to the betterment of society and has been operating effectively since 2009. This group has saved numerous lives in critical situations. Their Plasma Team is represented by an Organiser, Chief Coordinators, Student Coordinators and Volunteers. They offer people a free blood donation service. Within the college campus, they host blood donation, organ donation and health-related camps and initiatives.

SASTRA Deemed University is willing to assist all college students, faculty and their families with the University's permission. With the approval of the donor's parents or spouse or guardian, they willingly assist other needy people. The university directs the group to organise blood donation camps on a regular basis. This event occurs once a year. Personal information about donors or patients without their permission is never shared. Blood donation camps were organised even during the pandemic in 2019 & 2020. 

Wadio

Wadio is the SASTRA's on-campus Wi-Fi radio and was founded in 2008 by WJs Max and Venky. It started broadcasting in 2009. 7Cube The Wadio, as it is now called, is a shred of evidence that SASTRA faculty and students still appreciate certain good-old radio shows. The Wadio is a source of much-needed entertainment, with all the newest music from across the world, student dedications and numerous themed performances. Every weekend, the Wadio plays movies and streams sports through Wi-Fi.

Entrepreneurship Development Cell

As start-ups have indeed been the fired-up stunning success of the previous few years, SASTRA's Entrepreneurship Development Cell has been consistently lending a guiding hand in supporting and inspiring all the emerging entrepreneurs out there. It is a well-established framework that seeks to turn a large number of energetic and motivated students into successful businesses. Its success is dependent on identifying and executing ideas. SASTRA's ED Cell strives to identify future entrepreneurs, who want to make a difference in the world by initiating change. They give abundant opportunities for young minds to improve themselves.

NSS & NCC Activities

Students at SASTRA Deemed University have an opportunity to undergo NSS and NCC training. Students are chosen for this training depending on their performance in the physical assessment. Professors from NCC and NSS conduct the examination. These professors guide them in the training after the selection.

Clubs

1. Oratory and Debating Club:

In this club, monthly events are conducted to test the speaking skills and debating ability of the students. Interested students can participate in the events conducted by this club.

Literary Club:

In this club, monthly events are conducted to analyse the student’s literature in various languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, English, etc. Interested students can participate in the events conducted by this club.

JAM Club:

In this club, monthly events are conducted to identify the student’s critical thinking ability. A topic is provided to the student on the spot and they are required to speak about the topic for around a minute. Interested students can participate in the events conducted by this club.

Quiz Club:

In this club, monthly events are conducted to assess the student’s knowledge of current affairs and trends. Interested students can participate in the events conducted by this club.

If you will take addmission only with IPE scores then you are likely to get seat of CSE, ECE, or mechanical branch .If you will take admission via IPE and JEE scores then you are get a seat in ECE.It depends on you by which path you chose to get admission.

With 95.5% in IPE and 90 percentile in JEE Mains, your combined score is strong enough for SASTRA’s ECE cutoff in recent years.

Past admissions show students with slightly lower marks have still got ECE.

You’re not guaranteed, but chances are high if you apply in both streams.
