The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the CBSE Class 10 Phase 2 exam 2026 from May 15 to June 1, 2026. The datesheet of Class 10 2026 CBSE Board Phase 2 was released by the Board. The guidelines for submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for CBSE 10th Phase 2 board exam 2026 were made available. CBSE will conduct the second board exam to allow students to improve their performance in upto three subjects-Mathematics, Science, Social Science, or languages. CBSE 10th compartment exam 2026 will be conducted alongside the Phase 2 exam.
CBSE 10th Phase 2 exam 2026 also serves as the exam for compartment categories and special cases, held in February to March 2026. CBSE Class 10 Second Phase Board Exam 2026
To reduce exam pressure and improve performance, CBSE decided to conduct two board exams as per National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines. To take the CBSE 10 th Phase 2 exam, students need to appear for the first board exam. They can improve their scores in three subjects. The exam centres are the same as the first board exams. First/Second examinations will also act as Supplementary examinations. No special examination will be conducted in any circumstances.
All the candidates will be issued passing documents after the CBSE Class 10 2nd Phase result. Students not qualified in the first/main board exam are allowed to take admission in Class 11, and based on the result of the 2nd exam, the admission will be finalized. A merit certificate will be issued after the CBSE Class 10 2nd examination.

There is no facility for improvement of performance in internal assessment as it is a year-long exercise. Students are eligible for CBSE 10th Phase 2 for Theory papers only.
CBSE 10th Phase 2 Eligibility 2026
CBSE notified regarding the second board exam eligibility. The same is given below.
- The student must have appeared in at least 3 examinations in the CBSE Class 10 2026 first exam
- Must have passed Class 10 to appear in the improvement
- Those placed in the compartment category are eligible for the CBSE 10th Phase 2 exam 2026
- Students must have passed Class 10 by replacing the 6th subject
- Placed under UFM category 1 (if otherwise eligible)
- Students placed in the CBSE Class 10 compartment category in the 2025 examinations
- Any student who has not appeared in three or more subjects in the CBSE Class 10 2026 main exam is not eligible for the second board examination
- Improvement is allowed up to 3 main subjects out of Science, Mathematics, Social Science and language
- First/Third Chance Compartment
- Students under compartment and improvement category are eligible
- Improvement for the students passed by the replacement of the subject are also eligible
- Sports students who were given permission by the Board
- If a student has not appeared because of any reasons/ failed in three or more subjects in first exam then they are not eligible to appear for the Phase 2
- Students placed in the Essential Repeat category are not eligible. They are allowed next year in the CBSE Class 10 main examinations
CBSE 10th Class Phase 2 LOC
CBSE released guidelines for submission of List of Candidates (LOC) for Class 10 second board exam. LOC will be submitted by the schools for all desirous students. As the second board exam will be conducted for the first time, to know the correct figure of students who wish to appear in the Second Board Examinations and to also to know the subjects in which they wish to appear, CBSE released the schedule of submission of LOC. Students from the Middle East countries, where examinations have been cancelled, they can submit their LOC after declaration of result in Phase 2. The dates related to the submission of the LOC are given below.

CBSE 10th Phase 2 Exam Pattern 2026
The exam pattern for the second phase is the same as the first/main board exam. The board revised the CBSE Class 10 exam pattern. The new exam pattern focuses on balanced mix of competency-based, objective, and descriptive questions. It comprises both theory paper and internal assessments. CBSE Class 10 passing mark is 33% in each paper as well as in aggregate. The CBSE Class 10 Phase 2 syllabus 2026 is the same as the first board exam. CBSE 10th Phase 2 Exam 2026: Points to Remember
Important details related to the CBSE Class 10 Phase 2 2026 exam are given below.
- All the students must appear in the first board exam
- All passed and eligible students are allowed to improve their performance in any of the three subjects out of Science, Mathematics, SocialScience and languages
- If a student did not appear in three or more subjects in first examination, then they are not eligible to appear in the 2nd Such students are allowed to appear in the main examination only next year in the month of February
- For students whose CBSE Class 10 result in the first examination is Compartment, such students are allowed to appear in the second examination under the same category
- Subject changes are not allowed from the first examination to the second examination. It is permitted in the case of Mathematics
- No correction in the student's data from first examination second examination is allowed
- There is no facility for improvement of performance in internal assessment, as it is a year-long exercise
- The marksheet cum passing certificate will have marks secured in the first and second exams, as well as the internal assessment and grades. The better of the two marks will also be mentioned
- A merit certificate will be issued after the CBSE 10 th Phase 2 exam
- Students who failed to pass from 1 to 5 subjects in 1st examination will be placed under the Improvement Category and will be allowed to appear in 2nd examination
