For the General AI category, the NIFT last round cutoff ranged between 315 and 1692, with Master of Fashion Management (MFM) being the most competitive course for admission. For B.Des admission, the NIFT maximum cutoff rank required was 1692.

NIFT Chennai cutoff 2025 was released for admission to various Design courses at the UG and PG levels. NIFT Chennai B.Des cutoff 2025 was released for Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Communication and Leather Design specialisations. Among all these, the one that turned out to be the most competitive for admission was Fashion Communication, with NIFT first and last round closing ranks of 299 and 391, respectively.

Admission to BDes at NIFT Chennai is solely entrance-based i.e. - The National Institute of Technology (NIFT), which will be  conducting the written exams for NIFT 2024 tentatively in the 1st week of February 2024. For aspiring candidates, it’s mandatory to qualify for the written exam along with the situation test comprising different rounds. NIFT Chennai selects students based on the weightage of different parameters in each selection round. Additionally, the seat allocation is respectively common for all the reserved categories and the total seat intake is equally divided into each specialisation.

Among the OBC category candidates, the NIFT 2025 cutoff ranks varied between 633 and 5202 during the last round of admission. Of all the B.Des specialisations, the most challenging for admission was Fashion Communication with a last round closing rank of 1069, followed by Fashion Design (1565) and Accessory Design (1880). For the students belonging to the SC AII India quota, the NIFT last round closing ranks varied between 853 and 7725. Among the B.Des specialisations, the most competitive was Fashion Communication, with NIFT first round closing rank of 1964. On the contrary, the least competitive specialisation for admission was Leather Design, with NIFT first and last round closing ranks of 6676 and 7725, respectively.

Q:   Can we join BDes at NIFT Chennai without entrance exam?
A: 

Joining NIFT Chennai's BDes programme without entrance exam doesn't seem like a possibility. As per the Institution's admission guidelines, candidates must appear for the qualify The National Institute of Technology (NIFT) exam. The exam is conducted once every year and has TWO parts:

  • Written Exams - It comprise the GAT and CAT. The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take the CAT. 
  • Situation Test/ Personal Interview - B.Des candidates who get shortlisted have to appear in the Situation Test.

Q:   Who is eligible for BDes at NIFT Chennai fashion design course?
A: 

Candidates who have twelve years of school education with minimum of five subjects by the National Open School or from a recognised board are eligible for the BDes at NIFT Chennai. Additionally, as per the Institution's guidelines, candidate's maximum age should be less than 24 years (5 years relaxation in upper age for people from reserved categories). Now candidates are only required to appear for the NIFT entrance exam for BDes admission. 

NIFT Chennai Cutoff 2025 for ST All India Category

NIFT Chennai B.FTech cutoff 2025 was released along with other Design courses, such as B.Des and MFM. Compared with the SC AII India category, the NIFT cutoff ranks were less competitive for admission among the ST category students under the AII India quota. For B.Des in Fashion Design, the NIFT 2025 first and last round closing ranks were 4046 and 7210, respectively. 

For other courses, such as B.FTech. in Apparel Production, the NIFT closing rank was 1634 in the first round, while in the last round, the cutoff rank concluded at 2310

NIFT Chennai selection process is entrance-based mainly. The institute conducts an entrance exam of its own. Students have to appear for the NIFT Entrance Exam first. The test includes Creative Ability Test and General Ability Test.
