The NIRF 2025 Rankings are out. IIT Kanpur has been ranked #5 under the 'Overall', #4 under the 'Engineering' category, #6 under the 'Research Institutions' category, and #27 under the 'Management' category.
As per the latest QS Rankings 2026, IIT Kanpur is ranked #222 in the 'World University' category.
The GATE 2026 exam for admission to ME/MTech/PhD courses will be conducted on Feb 7, Feb 8, Feb 14, and Feb 15, 2026.
A few more updates are given below:
- The JEE Main registration 2026 is now open for IIT Kanpur admission to BTech, BArch, and BPlan courses. The registration deadline for session 1 is Nov 27, 2025, and the exam will tentatively be conducted between Jan 21 and Jan 30, 2026.
- The IIT JAM 2026 application correction window is now open till Nov 13, 2025, for admission to the MSc course. The IIT JAM 2026 exam is scheduled for Feb 15, 2026.
- The CEED registration 2026 is now over for IIT Kanpur admission to the M.Des course, and the CEED 2026 exam is scheduled for Jan 18, 2026.

Candidates aiming for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) need to meet these cutoff marks in JEE Mains to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026.
The cut off rank in Round 6 for B.Sc. in Chemistry is 11824 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. IIT Kanpur scholarships are offered to award meritorious students. IITK offers the following scholarships to the students:
- Merit-cum-means Scholarship: IIT Kanpur offers Merit-cum-means Scholarship to offer financial assistance to meritorious students and support economically weak students. The scholarship is offered to around 25% students from each batch, out of which 20% are offered to the reserved category students (SC/ST).
- Donor Scholarships: This scholarship is offered to award the deserving and needy candidates.
- External Scholarships: IITK assists students in exploring and applying for the scholarships offered by the government through various schemes. Candidates can apply for these external scholarships via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Yes, IIT Kanpur also offers an option of a dual degree, i.e., Bachelors-Masters Dual Degree to the students. A student earns both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree at the end of this five-year course. The dual degree programme has three categories:
- Category A: In this case, both degrees are in the same discipline/department. Example: BTech-M Tech.
- Category B: This is a two-discipline/ department programme where the bachelor’s degree is in the parent discipline/ department and the master’s degree is in a different discipline/ department. Thus, three combinations are possible in this category, ex: BTech-M Tech, BTech-MS and BTech-MDes. Students can choose any one of the aforementioned combinations.
- Category C: In this case, the bachelor’s degree is in the parent discipline/ department and the master’s degree is MBA. Ex: BTech-MBA.

Candidates seeking admission to BS at IIT Kanpur must have a valid score in JEE Main, JEE Advanced and go through JoSAA counselling for final admission. Admission is completely entrance exam-based and candidates seeking admission can not get into IIT Kanpur with only the scores of JEE Main. JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA counselling is the mandatory requirement. Additionally, to be eligible for the BSc programme, students are required to have passed their Class 12 with at least 75% aggregate with Science subjects (i.e., Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).

IIT Kanpur is ranked 4 for Engineering by NIRF 2022. Considered under the top 5 eminent institutes in the country for Engineering education, the cutoffs are comparatively higher. IIT Kanpur offers a four-year BS degree (Bachelor of Science) which is also referred to as BSc by many. At the undergraduate level, IIT Kanpur offers this programme in full-time and it provides both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Science. Available across six specialisations, admission to this programme is entrance exam-based (JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced).
The total fee for the four-year BS programme of IIT Kanpur is INR 8 lakh. This is inclusive of the one-time admission and caution deposits but is not inclusive of the hostel fee.
