Research, Consultancy, Publications and Patent Day celebration at REC
April 8, 2022: Rajalakshmi Engineering College honoured its prominent faculty members on April 4, 2022, by giving ‘Cash Awards’ for their excellent contributions in Research, Consultancy, Publications, and Patents. Rajalakshmi Engineering College has been recognised for its proficiency in research for societal effect since its foundation and has placed a high value on research and innovation.
Dr V Murali Bhaskaran, Dean of Academics, greeted everyone.
Dr CR Muthukrishnan, Advisor, Rajalakshmi Institutions, stated during his presidential address, “Research is a vital component of a faculty for professional competency. It directs the course of research. Every project provides an opportunity to do research, which is a lifelong endeavour. It entails many minds contributing ideas to produce good publications. As faculty members, we must maintain our efforts and concentrate in the subject, as well as invest time in a continuous learning mode. We should take a good look around us. A modest alteration would have a large and dramatic influence on our lives."
During the award event, the recipients of the three patent grants were each given a monetary prize of Rs 1 lakh.
Dr R Shanthi, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, invented the first patent titled "Electric Wrench Cum Jack Screwer" relating to a device that is proposed to be a part of the toolbox available in all cars and support in terms of flattening wheel situation in order to replace a wheel.
The Second Patent, titled "Grinding Waste from Automobile Industry as a Potential Construction Material," was invented by Dr S Geetha and Dr M Selvakumar, Professors in the Civil Engineering Department, and is related to the use of grinding waste from the automobile industry as a potential construction material.
The Third Patent titled "Guava Leaf Extract - Stored Food Grain Insecticide" was invented by Dr V Gayathri, Associate Professor, and Dr Johanna Rajkumar, Dean and Professor, Biotechnology Department, and is related to the isolation of bio-pesticide composition from Guava leaf, capable of serving as effective bio control agents against insects in stored food grains.
A successful patent award is always regarded as a source of great pride and respect for any institution in the country. To instil the spirit of doing research, Rajalakshmi Institutes' academic members are now continually encouraged and inspired by the Management to excel in filing additional patents. Dr M Subbiah, Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, delivered the vote of appreciation at the end of the ceremony. The award ceremony was grandly celebrated in the presence of Rajalakshmi Engineering College's teaching fraternity.
M. Abhay Shankar, Vice Chairman, Rajalakhmi Institutions in his felicitation address highlighted that as faculty members we are in the vantage point to create a wonderful foundation for witnessing a knowledge revolution. He insisted for looking forward for more active research and to get more laurels in the upcoming years. He emphasised that the management is always supportive for the faculty members in all aspects of research
