University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) is about 100 year old and was established in 1917, under the name "Government Engineering College", by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. It is the 5th engineering college to be established in india and first in Karnataka. UVCE is one of the few technical institutions in the country that has achieved with the status of a university and neck on the lines of IITs. It is one of the oldest technical institutions in india, which provides technical courses like B.Tech., B.Arch., M.Tech., M.Arch. and PhD degrees in the various disciplines of Engineering and Architecture.

Admissions to the BTech course provided by the Univesity Visvesvaraya College of Engineering is entrance-based. Students are required to clear the minimum eligibility i.e., to pass Class 12 or its equivalent in the relevant subjects from a recognised board. As the competition for UVCE BTech seats is high, it is important that the candidates secure good marks in the Common Entrance Test conducted by the KEA.
