B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering - Batch of 2021

You had to qualify JEE to get into this.
Placements: The placements were good for circuit branches like CSE, ECE, EEE, and Mechanical as well. For other departments, placements were decent. Typically, students in the 5th and 6th semesters had opportunities to apply for on-campus internships, while those in the 7th and 8th semesters applied for placements. Companies like Google, Oracle, Goldman Sachs, Hilti, Wells Fargo, DE Shaw, NatWest, ZS Associates, John Deere, UBS, Reliance, Samsung, and others visited the campus. The highest package offered was 36 LPA. The average was 11 LPA. More than 80% of students were placed.
Infrastructure: Hostel rooms were very good. Facilities included a fan, two closets, a table, and a bed with a chair. The mess food was not up to the mark, and we had to adjust to it. A mess form had to be submitted. Rooms were allotted based on a lucky dip. Many books were available in the library, so there was no need to buy books from outside. Classrooms had ACs, LCDs, projector screens, and many other facilities. There was a very large ground with different sports facilities. We also had the Institute Gathering (IG), which lasted for 10 days, where all departments competed in different sports.
Faculty: Faculty members were really experienced and talented. But most failed to deliver the same knowledge to students. Most teachers had a vast knowledge bank, but were not the best at teaching. There were two exams, namely midterms and end-of-term terms, carrying 30 and 50 marks respectively. The course was slightly old in terms of content, but updates were being made that were branch-specific, such as more detailed electronics in the electrical lab, including diodes and other relevant experiments.

The view of VNIT college from the eyes of a sophomore.
Placements: For mechanical engineering branch in the year 2024-2025, a placement percentage of 95+ was achieved, with the highest package being given by BPCL. The average and median were about 11.6 LPA and 10.8 LPA, respectively. The college has a reputation for having a higher placement percentage for mechanical students, even when compared to CSE from the last 2 years.
Infrastructure: There is very good infrastructure in the college for most of the programs, specifically for mechanical, there is a Siemens centre of excellence in which VNIT students can take part in certification courses in labs like product design and validation, test and optimization, reverse engineering, and many more. The mechanical engineering department has one smart classroom and many other classes. The only thing to complain about in the hostels is the food.
Faculty: The teachers from the department of Mechanical Engineering are very senior and very qualified. Everyone has a huge pool of knowledge that they are ready to share with the students. The course is evolving and becoming more industry-ready with each integration, like the involvement of CADM as a course to give opportunities to those who wish to get into design-related fields. The exams are not really difficult, but they are not graded leniently.

Visvesvaraya NIT College review.
Placements: About 80% of students managed to get placed. The highest salary package on the table is around 13 LPA, while the lowest sits at about 5 LPA. Most of the recruitment action comes from companies like ZS, JSW, Jindal Steel, Birla, and Varroc. Unfortunately, only a handful of students snagged internships at our college. Most have to venture out and search for opportunities elsewhere. The top job roles being offered usually include positions like consultant and view engineer.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is practical, with good facilities both for sports and academics. You can always use a LAN port for an unlimited public Ethernet connection.
Faculty: The teachers are very well-qualified and are of a lot of help. The teaching method is of very high quality. The training program is very relevant and it definitely prepares students for the industry. Semester exams are at a medium level of difficulty. However, the pass percentage is dependent on the average score of the class, which is 50%.

M.Sc. in Chemistry - Batch of 2024

This was the best college for the M.Sc. in Chemistry course.
Placements: In our institution, 77% of students secured placements in our programme. The leading recruiting firms included HOCL, IOCL, ONGC, and several other top companies that visited our college. The top package from our research was approximately 25 LPA, while the average package stood at 12 LPA. Approximately 70% of students received internship offers. The advanced positions available included Analytical Chemist, Research Scientist, and others.
Infrastructure: There were good labs, great sports facilities, and a playground. Very big tournaments were organized every year, and coaches were provided for games. There was a hotel office. The hotel was awesome in every way, very clean and lush with lots of trees. The mess food was pretty good. There were large rooms for students. There was a small hotel fee of 750/year.
Faculty: Teachers had extensive education, with the majority holding PhDs in their respective specialties. Their teaching abilities were exceptional. Honestly, the curriculum had no bearing on technical objectives. The semester questions were well-organized and extremely hard.

Great quality of life. Have to compromise a bit on placement.
Placements: In the 2025 batch, approximately 80% of students are placed in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The highest package is 14 LPA, the lowest 4.5 LPA, and the median 8 LPA. The average package of ECE, EEE, and MME was almost the same. MME comes just after Circuital in hierarchy in VNIT, above Mechanical and Chemical. Top recruiters are mainly from core industries (Jindal, JSW, etc.), and non-core recruiters are generally mass recruiters. Many students go for research internships. Top roles in core are entry-level, but in core, the stability of the job is unmatched. Whereas non-core shows big monetary gain early on in life.
Infrastructure: Classrooms and hostels are some of the best in NITs. 1st year students mainly get double-seater rooms, and if you report late, you will get triple-seater rooms. From the 2nd year, you have the option to choose either double or single-seater rooms. 3rd and 4th years are fully single-seater. 4th-year students get the newest apartment-class hostels. The mess is manageable, and medical and sports facilities are top class compared to any other NITs.
Faculty: All teachers hold Ph.D. degrees from IITs, IISERs, or abroad and are well qualified. Teacher quality varies, but in general, the faculty is all okay. From the 2nd year onwards, the departmental faculty handles everything. Semester exams are quite easy. Mostly everyone passes except for the BEE and Maths-II courses.
Other: I chose MME out of interest in the materials side of prospects and scope. The rising need for different materials in semiconductors is also a big upcoming area. Fests are not as grand as IIT Bombay's Mood Indigo or Tech Fest, but it is what it is. You will get pretty bored attending the same fests all 4 years, so enjoy 1st year as much as you can.

I am satisfied with the opportunities the college gives to students.
Placements: As of March 2025, 72% of students are placed in the Mechanical Engineering (B.Tech) department. The top recruiting companies are HPCL, Jindal Stainless, Maruti Suzuki, BPCL, and Aditya Birla Group. Students got PPOs from Accenture, Neterwala Group, ITC Limited, and John Deere.
Infrastructure: A continuous LAN network is available in hostel rooms. The library is well-equipped with many books. Hostels are cleaned daily and hygiene is maintained. The food quality in the mess is decent. Medical services provided are very good and free of cost. Sports complex is also robust with so many sports equipment.
Faculty: All the teachers here are PhD graduates and helpful. Teaching quality is good. The course curriculum is updated and relevant. We have lab sessions for every theory course. Semester exams are very hard here and require continuous study. Exams can't be passed by studying one night before. The overall passing rate is almost 98.6%.
