NID DAT Participating Institutes 2024 - The participating institutes of NID DAT 2024 offer B.Des and M.Des courses. 

Admission to these courses will be based on NID DAT 2024 scoresThe B.Des has a combined intake capacity of 425 seats and is offered at five NID campuses. Meanwhile, the M.Des program has a combined intake of 347 seats and is offered at three campuses.

Candidates seeking admission design courses at NID participating colleges need to take the NID DAT 2024 entrance exam, which is conducted in TWO stages: 1) DAT Prelims and 2) - DAT Mains. The merit list of NID DAT 2024 will be prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

The FINAL results of NID DAT 2024 are now OUT.

The NID DAT 2024 (Prelims) exam was conducted on December 24, 2023. The M.Des DAT Mains 2024 exam was conducted from March 4 to April 4, 2024. Meanwhile, the B.Des DAT Mains Studio Test was held on April 28, 2024.

Q:   What are the participating institutes of NID for the B. Des programme?

A:

There are five participating institutes of NID DAT exam that offer the B.Des program.

These include: NID Ahmedabad NID Andhra Pradesh NID Haryana NID Madhya Pradesh NID Assam.

The seat intake for the B. Des stands at 425. Among the participating institutes, NID Ahmedabad has an intake of 125 seats, while the rest of the NIDs each has an intake of 75 seats. Note that seats are reserved for categories like General-EWS, OBC, SC, and ST categories.

Admission to these seats will be on the basis of NID DAT scores.

Note that the next edition of the NID DAT exam, or NID DAT 2025, will be conducted tentatively in December 2024.

The application form is expected to commence in September 2024.

 

Q:   How many seats are there for NID admissions?

A:
Total seats offered in B. Des courses at all the NID campuses is 425 seats. For M.Des course, NID seats on offer for admission are 347. The B. Des programme is offered at five institutes - NID Ahmedabad, NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh, and NID Assam. The various faculty members under which the programme is available include Faculty of Communication Design, Faculty of Industrial Design, and Faculty of Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle, and Accessory Design. Meanwhile, the M.Des course is available at NID Ahmedabad, NID Bengaluru, and NID Gandhinagar. Admission to both the B. Des and M.Des courses will be through the NID DAT entrance exam.

Q:   What is the minimum qualifying criteria for NID admissions?

A:

The minimum qualifying criteria for NID 2025 is the minimum marks the candidate needs to secure for admission. The category-wise cut-off would be released at the time of counseling and seat allotment. The cut-off would be prepared by considering factors like the total number of applicants, the merit ranks of applicants in NID DAT 2025, seat intake for the applied programme, etc. Note that if the seat allotment for NID that is conducted in multiple rounds, then a separate cut-off would be prepared for each round. And candidates who meet the cut-off criteria for that round will get admission.

 

Q:   I belong to OBC category. Is there any reservation of seats in my category for B.Des programme at NIDs?

A:

Yes, the National Institute of Design has reserved seats for OBC, SC, ST, PwD and EWS categories. For the OBC-NCL category, the combined intake capacity is 114 seats. Candidates who belong to the OBC-NCL category need to select their admission category at the time of filling out the NID that application form. Note that only genuine candidate needs to apply under the category, because every information furnished by the candidate will be checked at the time of NID counseling. Also, the candidate will have to furnish the relevant category Certificate to be considered for admission under that category. During seat allotment, OBC-NCL candidates will also be considered for admission under the general category.

 

Q:   Is it necessary to appear in both DAT Prelims and DAT Mains for admission to Design courses at NID?

A:

The National Institutes of Design (NIDs) currently offer the BDes and MDes courses. Admission to these courses will be based on the merit rank of the candidate in the NID DAT exam, which will be prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. The weightage carried by the two exams is notified by the National Institute of Design at the time of declaration of final results. Note that in NID DAT 2025, the DAT Prelims will carry 40% weightage, while DAT Mains will carry 60% weightage.

The candidate has to first appear in DAT Prelims, and if shortlisted has to next appear in DAT Mains. The DAT Mains exam for the BDes comprises a Studio Test, but also an interview for the MDes programme.

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for admission to BDes programme at NIDs?

A:

To be considered for admission to the BDes programme, the candidate needs to have or appear in the Class 12 exam. Candidates from any stream can apply, including Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc. For the General and General EWS categories, only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible to apply for admission. Note that for candidates belonging to SC, ST, and OBC-NCL categories, there is a relaxation of 3 years. Meanwhile, PwD candidates are eligible for a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit.

 

Q:   What is the age limit for admission to B.Des programme at the NIDs?

A:

The candidate needs to be born on or after July 1, 2004 for admission to the B. Des programme through NID DAT 2025 entrance exam. 

Note that relaxation of 3-years applies to candidates from following categories - Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST). Meanwhile, for candidates belong to the PwD category, the relaxation in the upper age limit is 5 years. The candidate before filling out the NID application form need to ensure that they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. Note that if the candidate is found to be faking their age, he or she may be disqualified.

Q:   Which M.Des specialisations are offered through NID entrance exam?

A:
A. Q:   What is the seat intake for the industrial design programme at the NIDs?

A:
The NIDs have a combined intake of 425 seats for the B. Des programme. Of these, 45 seats are earmarked for the Industrial Design programme. The candidate can select from specializations like Ceramic and Glass Design, Furniture & Interior Design, and Product Design. The candidate will be able to select the programme of specialisation at the time of counseling. Note that counseling for B. Des programme starts on May 18, 2023. As part of the NID counseling process, eligible candidates need to select campuses. The allotment of seats will be as per the merit rank of the candidate in NID DAT 2023 and campus opted by the candidate.
 

Q:   How many seats are available for general category in NID?

A:
The are currently 347 seats earmarked for the B. Des programme at the five participating institutes of NID 2023. Of these, 170 seats are available for general category candidates. Note that candidates belonging to reserved categories will also be considered for admission under the general category. However, candidates from general categories can't apply for admission under reserved categories. The candidate has to select their admission category at the time of filling out the NID that application form. Also, the candidate has to produce supporting documents at the time of admission. If the candidate fails to produce their category Certificate then he or she will be considered for admission under the general category.
 

Q:   How many seats are available for Interior Designing in NID?

A:

The Interior Design programme is offered both for the BDes and MDes courses. At the BDes level, the Interior Design programme is offered under the faculty of Industrial Design, with a specialisation in Furniture and Interior Design. There are currently 13 seats for the programme. At the master's level, MDes in Furniture & Interior Design course is offered at the NID Ahmedabad campus. The intake capacity for the MDes programme is currently 19 seats. Admission to the Interior Design programme (both Bachelor's and master's) at the NIDs will be through the NID DAT exam.

 

Q:   When will the NID DAT 2025 Prelims exam be conducted?

A:

The National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct the DAT Prelims exam tentatively in the 4th week of December 2024.

The B.Des exam will be held from 10 am - 1 pm; meanwhile, the M.Des exam will be held from 10 am - 12.30 am.

The DAT Prelims for the B.Des programme will be conducted in a paper-and-pencil/pen mode. The question paper may  incude both textual and visual questions. Other details like duration of the exam, marking scheme, etc. will be published in the DAT Prelims admit card.

The candidate needs to report for the exam at 8 am. Gates closing time is 9.30 am. 

The DAT Prelims exam for the M.Des programme will be conducted offline and include a mix of objective and subjective questions. The paper will have a total of 100 questions.

 

Q:   When will the application forms for NID 2025 be released?

A:

NID application form 2025 will open tentatively in the 2nd week of September 2024. The application form will open online at the NID admission portal -admissions.nid.edu. Candidates who meet the program-specific eligibility criteria may apply before the last date.

The NID application form is for admission to the B. Des and M.Des courses offered by participating colleges. 

The candidate has the option to fill out the application form with both regular and late fees. 

Note that the detailed application schedule will be released at the time of the release of the application form.

The GATE closing time for both the B.Des and M.Des courses is 9.30 am (30 minutes before the commencement of the exam), after which no candidate will be allowed inside the exam centre.
