IIT Delhi & AIIMS join hands to set up biomedical research park
IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Delhi and AIIMS will be jointly setting up a Biomedical Research Park in Haryana's Jhajjar for interdisciplinary research in the field of health care. The joint collaboration will include a joint PhD supervision programme and provision for adjunct faculty for both the institutes.
The two institutes have already started working on as many 20 projects. The institutes' directive includes the development of a drug delivery system, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Materials, Robotics etc.

B R Mehta, Dean - Research and Development, IIT Delhi said, " The work on research park is yet to start, but the work on 20 projects is already underway. Both institutes will be using their own funds for research. We didn't apply for special grants from government since we wanted to begin as early as possible".
The partnership of the two institutes is expected to open plethora of opportunities to work together on a larger scale.
To tackle the shortage of skilled human resource in the health sector, the government has announced 22 new AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) to be established across the country. The institutes will be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakhya Yojana to reduce regional imbalance between the healthcare and tertiary fields.
The centre is planning a rapid expansion of medical education in the country as it is the foundation of healthcare sector in India.
Currently, there are 7 All India Institute of Medical Sciences across India.
