KCET Seat Allotment 2026: The KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) seat allotment process is final phase for students seeking admissions into undergraduate engineering courses in the state of Karnataka. Conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), the process is online and assigns college seats based on candidate ranks, category reservations, and preferred options. Understanding how the software evaluates choices and what actions to take after each round is essential for candidates to secure the best possible college placement.

Upon release, candidates will have to enter their CET number to check the KCET seat allotment. The preferences filled by the candidates during KCET option entry will be a deciding factor during the seat allotment. Candidates are advised to have all the documents ready before KCET counselling 2026. For more details about KCET seat allotment 2026, candidates can refer to the article provided below.

KCET Seat Allotment 2026 - Prerequisites

Before participating in the seat allotment matching algorithm, candidates must complete two mandatory checkpoints:

  • Physical or online verification must be completed at designated KEA centres.

  • Upon successful verification, candidates will receive a Verification Slip containing a unique ID and a confidential Secret Key.

  • Candidates must log into KEA portal using their secret key to input an unlimited number of college and course combinations.

  • The list must be structured in strict order of descending preference.

How the Algorithm Allots Seats to Students?

The KEA software relies on a highly structured iteration logic to process millions of potential combinations:

  1. The system starts at Rank 1 and finishes entire process for candidate before moving to Rank 2.

  2. For each rank, the system reads candidate's option list starting from Option 1 down to the last entered choice.

  3. The software looks at seat matrix for specific college, branch, and category reservation. If a seat is vacant, it is immediately assigned to the candidate.

  4. Once the seat is allocated, the system stops checking lower options for that student. In subsequent rounds, a candidate can only move upward on their priority list.

KCET Mock Allotment 2026

Before the actual seats are alloted the exam body will issue a mock trial providing candidates with an indicator of where they might gain entry based on current trends. Following the mock results, KEA opens a brief correction window where candidates are permitted to add, delete, or rearrange their option hierarchy.

Round 1 and Round 2

The first real distributions are processed sequentially. Special category reservations (e.g., NCC, Sports, PwD) are filled first, followed directly by general merit and category paths.

Second Extended Round (Mop-Up Round)

This is the final phase to exhaust leftover vacancies across institutions. Unlike previous stages, if a seat is allocated in this casual vacancy round, the candidate must compulsorily accept it; failing to report attracts financial penalties.

Karnataka Examination Authority will announce the KCET 2026 mock allotment result based on the merit and option entered by the candidates by following the roster system. Post the KCET mock allotment result, candidates will be allowed to change, reorder, delete and add courses and colleges of their preferences.

The final submitted options for the first KCET seat allotment 2026 are considered. The authorities conduct the mock allotment to help candidates to understand how the order of their choice preference will lead to allotment of the course and college.

What after KCET Seat Allotment 2026?

After the Round 1 and Round 2 results go live, every student holding a seat allocation is mandated to select one of four processing paths:

Choice Option

Definition

What Happens to Seat?

Can You Enter the Next Round?

Choice 1

Satisfied & Freezing

Reserved and locked for the candidate

No (Exits counselling)

Choice 2

Accepting & Upgrading

Held on standby for the candidate

Yes (Only looking at higher preferences)

Choice 3

Rejecting & Upgrading

Forfeited back to the open seat pool

Yes (Fresh search for higher options)

Choice 4

Rejecting & Exiting

Forfeited back to the open seat pool

No (Leaves the KEA system completely)

After the KCET seat allotment result is announced, selected candidates will have to confirm their admission by paying the required fee and verifying their documents. Failure to confirm their admission before the final date will lead to the cancellation of admission.

KCET Seat Allotment 2026 - Supernumerary Quota

During KCET seat allocation, canddiates can look out for the Supernumerary Quota (SNQ). KEA reserves an extra 5% of seats above the standard matrix in engineering courses for students with a certified family income under INR 8 Lakhs. If you secure an SNQ allocation, your core tuition fees are entirely waived.

To understand this better, suppose there are 120 seats in Computer Science in a particular college, and the Supernumerary quota for Computer Science in that college will be 6 seats. Therefore, the total intake in that college for computer science will be 126. Candidates allotted supernumerary quota in KCET seat allotment 2026 need not pay the tuition fee prescribed by the Government in that college because it will be waived off. The candidate must pay the other fees only. KCET Supernumerary seats are not available for the Architecture course

KCET Seat Allotment - Completing Admission

For students locking in their choice via Choice 1, the following steps conclude the legal admission:

  1. Download bank challan or access digital gateway on KEA Candidate Portal to pay the specified institutional fees.

  2. Approximately one hour after payment confirmation, the system generates an official KEA Admission Order. Download and print this document.

  3. Travel directly to the allotted college campus before the specified daily deadline. Hand over original credentials (including the KEA verification slip, marks cards, and the admission order) to lock in the seat allocation safely.

KCET is the main entrance exam for state quota seats. If you have a good JEE Main score, you can also apply for a management or NRI quota seat, or apply through COMEDK, which is another popular option in Karnataka. Each college may accept a different mix, so check individually.

For the General AI category, the maximum PES ECE cutoff 2026 acceptable for admission in the first round was 1223. So, students with a rank lower than 1223 can easily gain admission to the above-mentioned course. To know the maximum rank required by other categories, see the table below.

A Rank less than 10,000 is generally a good rank for getting admission into many popular engineering colleges and departments. But this depends on the institute, the course and counselling round.

Yes, Chanakya University, Bangalore offers separate reserved seats for KCET candidates through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). Out of its total intake (which varies between 60 to 120 seats per specialization), a specific percentage is allotted for KEA/KCET counseling.
