All the institutions have laid down some essential criteria for students to participate in final placements. Manish Motwani lists out the most important criteria that all students must meet to sit in the placement drives of eminent companies.

Talking about eligibility for placements, there are several criteria that a candidate must meet to sit in placements at Lovely Professional University (LPU). The eligibility criteria varies depending upon the company, domain, job type or even revision in college policies. Some of the major factors in determining eligibility include:

  1. Attendance: 75 per cent regular attendance during academic session is compulsory to sit for placements and take the final examination
  2. Subject Backlogs: Another important factor is total no. of reappears or what is popularly known as 'Back'. Many companies specifically ask for candidates with no standing backlogs in any subject from previous semesters. In general, we do get an option to clear the previous semesters’ backlogs thrice during an academic session.
  3. Academic Performance: Up next is your performance in academics. It again varies from company to company. In most cases, 75 per cent (or 7.5 CGPA) in graduation is a standard benchmark. Some service-based companies also accept 6.5 or 7 CGPA depending on the job profile and package offered. The cut-off is increased if the number of students are more but all the students are informed well before the drive. In case of large companies and MNC's, class 10th and 12th percentages are also taken into account. The minimum percentage required for both the classes is 75 per cent. In few cases, this becomes a decisive factor during final rounds of selection.
  4. Projects and Internship Experience: At present, there are no restrictions on the kind of projects and internships one should have completed for being eligible to sit in placements. However, the students with projects and internships are preferred and such students usually go through initial rounds of selection without much difficulty. Moreover, projects relevant to your course and subject area are given higher weightage. In addition, more the number of internships you have completed better are your chances of successful salary negotiation. Internships indicate your interaction with the corporate world.
  5. Documents: Many companies search for candidates for offshore locations. In these cases, documents such as passports becomes mandatory part of the post-selection documentation. Candidates not allowed to sit in such placement drives, if they don’t not have a valid passport. It is recommended to apply for your passport six months before start of the placement season. Additionally, one should possess valid ID, bank account and address proofs for smooth completion of various documentation such as visa, immigration, etc.
