SSC JE Syllabus 2025: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) released the SSC JE syllabus along with the notification on the official website at ssc.gov.in. The syllabus is an ultimate guide in the preparation journey. It provides candidates a proper structure for the preparation and also ensures that a student covers all the crucial topics required for the examination. The deep understanding of the syllabus improved the performance in the exam and also boosted the confidence level. The syllabus comprises two components namely General Awareness, General Intelligence & reasoning and a subject-specific either Civil, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

SSC JE Syllabus 2025

The SSC JE exam is divided into two stages - Paper 1 and Paper 2. The SSC JE Paper 1 is an online exam that consists of objective-type questions, while Paper 2 is also an objective exam that consists of 100 objective questions from the specific discipline chosen by candidates The SSC JE syllabus is a broad outline of the whole engineering subject. Candidates are required to read, understand, and prepare all the topics provided in the syllabus to score better in the SSC JE exam.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) releases the Junior Engineer Syllabus with the official notification. The Commission conducts the SSC JE exam for the following three Engineering streams:

  1. Civil and Structural
  2. Mechanical
  3. Electrical

Candidates should prepare the above engineering subjects in their entirety because the Commission can ask questions of any extent in the SSC JE question paper.

Q:   Is the SSC JE syllabus changed?
A: 

The SSC JE exam pattern has been revised, but major changes have not been seen in the syllabus of the SSC JE exam 2025. The exam continues to have two papers- Paper 1 (Ojective type) and Paper 2 (Objective type). Paper 1 determines the General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness and General Engineering tendencies of the candidates. On the other hand, the Paper 2 tests the General Engineering of the candidates on specific engineering branch/displine-civil, mechanical and electrical. 

The latest syllabus and the exam pattern can be checked on the official SSC JE notification that was released on the official website. Candidates are advised to prepare from the latest syllabus to prepare in the right direction.

Q:   Who prescribes SSC JE syllabus?
A: 

The Staff Selection Commission prescribes SSC JE syllabus. The SSC JE exam is conducted to recruit the engineering degree holders for the position of Junior Engineers. This is a specialist service exam where the graduate engineers of specific stream can apply for the post of Junior Engineer. The candidates selected in the SSC JE exam are appointed in the Central Government Departments and PSEs.

Q:   Are there only objective-type questions in SSC JE exam?
A: 

SSC JE Paper 1 & Paper 2 both contains objective-type questions. SSC JE Paper 1 works as a screening exam and most of the candidates are filtered out for the main exam. There is 0.25 negative marking in the SSC JE Paper 1 which makes the paper more difficult. Candidates should prepare for the SSC JE exam in a integrated manner.

Q:   How many attempts are allowed at SSC JE exam?
A: 

There is no limit on the number of attempts for the SSC JE exam. Candidates can apply for the SSC JE till they attain the maximum age limit mentioned in the official notification for their category. The Commission also provides the age relaxation to certain categories. Candidates should check the official notification to know about all such relaxations. You can appear for the exam as many times you want if you meet the SSC JE eligibility criteria.

Q:   In which mode is the SSC JE exam conducted?
A: 

SSC JE exam is conducted in two modes- i) Computer Based Test and ii) Conventional Mode. The details of these modes have been given below for the candidates:

Computer Based Test (CBT) Mode:

The SSC JE Paper 1 (Objective Type) exam is conducted in CBT mode. Candidates have to answer multiple choice questions using a mouse or a touch screen. 

Conventional Paper-Pen Mode: 

SSC JE Paper 2 (Convntional Type) exam is conducted in offline pen paper mode. Candidates have to write down answers on the question sheet provided. The mode of Paper 2 also depends upon the specific job profile.

To conclude, SSC JE Paper 1 is conducted in online mode (CBT) whereas Paper 2 can be either in CBT or conventional paper-pen mode depending on the specific post/subject.

Q:   Is it mandatory to appear for both the papers of SSC JE exam?
A: 

Yes, it is mandatory to appear for both paper 1 and 2 of SSC JE exam. Both the papers are compulsary for the SSC JE exam as the Paper 1 is conducted to shortlist the candidates for mains exam and is qualifying in nature. On the other hand, the paper 2 (mains) exam is conducted to shortlist candidates for the  Document verification.

The final cut off released on the basis of the marks obtained in the paper 2 exam and the document verfication. The candidates securing the marks equal to or more than the cut off marks is considered qualified for the SSC JE exam and gets recruited as per the preferences made by the candidates.
