Q:   Does the SSC JE follows negative marking scheme?

A:

Yes, the SSC JE (Junior Engineer) exam does follow a negative marking scheme. Here are some key details:

  • The SSC JE exam is conducted for recruitment to various Junior Engineer posts in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Quantity Surveying & Contracts disciplines
  • It is a computer-based exam consisting of objective type multiple choice questions
  • For every wrong answer, there is a negative marking of 1/4th of the marks allotted to that question
  • So for a question carrying 4 marks, 1 mark will be deducted for an incorrect answer
  • There is no negative marking for unanswered questions. Only questions that are attempted and answered incorrectly attract negative marking
  • The purpose of negative marking is to discourage random guessing. Candidates have to choose answers carefully after assessing their level of surety
  • It encourages high-quality preparation so candidates can attempt questions accurately rather than just guessing to complete the paper within time

So in summary, yes the SSC JE exam follows the standard negative marking scheme of 1/3rd deduction for wrong answers as mentioned above to test candidates' competency. Proper preparation is essential to minimize negative marks.

Q:   Who decides SSC JE cut off?

A:

The Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineer (SSC JE) Cut-off is decided by the Commission based on various factors such as the number of candidates appearing for the exam, the difficulty level of the exam, and the number of vacancies available for the post. The board also takes into account the reservation policy and other relevant factors while deciding the cut-off.

The cut-off is the minimum score that a candidate must obtain in order to qualify for the next stage of the selection process or for final selection. The cut-off may vary for different categories and posts, and the board may release separate cut-offs for each category.

Once the exam is conducted and the results are declared, the board analyses the performance of the candidates and decides the cut-off. The Commission may also consult with subject matter experts and other stakeholders while deciding the cut-off.
