IGNOU Admission Procedure 2019 - The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers admission to candidates in a variety of degree, diploma and certificate courses offered at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate level. The university provides admission to candidates in two cycles – January and July.
Currently, IGNOU admission procedure for the academic year 2019-20 is underway. Last date for IGNOU admissions 2019 in all academic courses offered by the university is August 14, 2019.
IGNOU Admission Procedure 2019
Indira Gandhi National Open University provides admission to candidates in different courses offered by it majorly on the basis of merit. However, for admission to few of its courses the varsity also conducts entrance exams. Some of the courses for which IGNOU admissions are done on the basis of entrance exam are MBA (OPENMAT exam), BEd, MPhil and PhD.
Candidates willing to secure admission at IGNOU can fill the application form in online as well as offline mode. Candidates are recommended to opt the online application process as the same is quicker and hassle-free. However, given below is the procedure to apply at IGNOU in both online and offline modes for reference of candidates:
Online Application Process: Candidates can follow the steps provided below to fill IGNOU application form on Online Admission System (OAS) of the varsity:
Step 1: Visit the official website of IGNOU.
Step 2: Under the 'Register Online' tab, click on the 'Fresh Admission' link.
Step 3: Click on the 'Register Yourself' button to register as a new user.
Step 4: Enter the following details in the IGNOU registration form:
- Name
- Father’s name
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Email ID
- Mobile number
- Username
- Password
- Secure code as shown on the screen
Step 5: Once all details are filled, click on the 'Submit' button. On clicking the button, candidates will be successfully registered on the IGNOU website.
Step 6: Login to the registered account using username and password created at the time of registrations.
Step 7: Fill the IGNOU application form. Details to be filled in the online application form are:
- Programme type (UG, PG, MPhil, etc)
- Programme for enrollment
- Regional centre
- Medium of study (English, Hindi, etc)
- Name
- Date of birth
- Nationality
- Gender
- Category
- Marital status
- Religion
- Social status
- Scholarship details (if applicable)
- Relevant qualification
- Complete correspondence address
Step 8: Upload scanned copies of documents such as photo, signature, age proof, Class 12th marksheet/ certificate, graduation marksheet, experience certificate (if applicable), category certificate (if applicable), and BPL certificate (if applicable). It may be noted that all scanned documents should be less than 100 KB in size.
Step 9: Pay IGNOU application fee via credit card/ debit card/ net banking. The application/ registration fee for most of the courses is Rs 400/ 200. However, there might be some variation in the registration fee depending on the course a candidate is applying for.
Step 10: On successful payment of application fee, a control number will be generated and payment confirmation page will be displayed on the screen. Print or save the form for future references.
After this, candidates’ online IGNOU application process will be complete.
Offline Application Process: To fill IGNOU application form in offline mode candidates can follow the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Get the offline application form by downloading it from the official website of the university or purchasing it from the nearest regional centre.
Step 2: Fill the following details in the application form:
- Programme for which a candidate wishes to apply
- Regional centre code
- Study centre code
- Medium (English/ Hindi/ Other) code
- Personal details such as name, parent’s name, date of birth, nationality, gender, category, minority, etc
- Scholarship details, if any
- Relevant qualification details such as subjects studied, year of passing, division, marks scored, etc
- Address for correspondence
- Application fee details such as amount, DD/ challan number, DD/ challan date, etc
- Paste latest passport size photograph duly attested by a gazetted officer.
- Signature
Step 3: Enclose the following attested certificates:
- Certificates in support of educational qualification
- Experience certificate, if applicable
- Category certificate for SC/ST/PH/OBC (non-creamy layer) minority candidates
- Age certificate
- Student card duly filled in along with a photograph
- Acknowledgement Card duly affixed with the postage stamp of Rs 6
Step 4: Attach a pay order/ demand draft for the programme fee in favour of IGNOU payable at the city in which a candidate’s regional centre is located. IGNOU application/ registration fee for most of the courses is Rs 200/ 400. However, there might be a variation in the fee depending on the course a candidate is applying for.
Step 5: Submit the application form either in person or by post at the respective regional centre.
IGNOU Admission Status
Once candidates are over with the application process, they can check the status of their admission/ registration on the official website of IGNOU. IGNOU admission status mentions if a candidate’s application has been accepted or rejected due to certain reasons. To avoid the rejection of applications, candidates are advised to fill all details in the form correctly and carefully. Also, candidates should not leave the form incomplete in any respect.
To check IGNOU admission status candidates can follow the steps below:
Step 1: Visit the official website of IGNOU.
Step 2: Click on the Fresh Admission link under the Register Online tab.
Step 3: Click on the Know Your Status tab.
Step 4: Enter control number generated at the time of filling the application form.
Step 5: Click on the Submit button.
On clicking the button, candidates’ IGNOU admission status 2019 will appear on the screen. If the application is accepted by the university, the admission status will show “approved”. In such a case, candidates will also be sent an email/ SMS mentioning that their admission is approved. Thereafter, candidates can pay the admission fee for their respective course and proceed with their studies.
In case, admission status of a candidate shows “rejected” s/he can contact the university officials and check if any discrepancy in the form can be rectified.
