AILET 2018 Exam Analysis by Experts

Just a day before this test (on May 5, 2018), many students appeared for Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) 2018, the test which was earlier known as SET-Law. SLAT was a very simple test in which students had to do a maximum of 150 questions in 150 minutes. Most of the students breezed through it!!!

AILET 2018 came as a tornado to most of the students. Here, they had 150 questions to be done in 90 minutes. As AILET is a paper based test, shading the ovals in the OMR sheet also takes time (unlike a click in a Computer Based Test). The broad structure of the test did not change from the previous years' except for the fact that negative marking was introduced this year.

Almost all the sections of the test were tough and there was hardly any reprieve in any of the sections.

Structure of the test:

Number of questions

150

Duration of the test

90 minutes

Marking Pattern

1 mark for a  right response and a penalty of 0.25 marks for an incorrect response

Number of options per question

4

The sections English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning had 35 questions each, whereas the Mathematics section had 10 questions.

AILET 2018 General Knowledge Section Analysis

General Knowledge can be said to be the least difficult among the five sections, but it had its own veneer of deception! Many questions in this section expected you to consider many facts related to just one question and then decide the number of facts which were correct/incorrect. The number of questions on static General Knowledge was just 3-4.

A good score in this section is above 20.

AILET 2018 Legal Aptitude Section Analysis

Legal Aptitude had 14 questions based on Legal Reasoning and 21 questions based on Legal Facts. Almost all the questions in Legal Reasoning were lengthy and tricky. The questions on Legal Knowledge were mostly based on current affairs related to legal issues (Right to privacy, Triple Talaq, petition filed to revive the case of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination, the "living entity" status of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, etc.). In fact, most of the questions asked here could have been asked in the section of General Knowledge as well. Effectively, almost 1/3 of the test (50 questions) was based on Current Affairs (sections of GK and Legal Aptitude put together).

A good score in this section is above 18.

AILET 2018 English Section Analysis

English had as many as 23 out of 35 questions on grammar and 7 questions on figures of speech! There were 5 questions based on idioms as well.

A good score in this section is above 21.

AILET 2018 Mathematics Section Analysis

Mathematics section was pre-dominantly Arithmetic. The questions in this section were doable, but by the time students reached this section they were exhausted.

A good score in this section is above 7.

AILET 2018 Logical Reasoning Section Analysis

Logical Reasoning section had questions from all the typical areas (arrangement around a circular table, coding-decoding, sequence and series, direction based questions, etc.). There were 5 questions on Critical Reasoning. There were a set of questions (probably true, probably false) in AILET 2018 which were seen in a test like this after a long time.

A good score in this section is above 16.

The result of this test is likely to be out on May 24. I wish all the readers best for CLAT and HPNLET 2018!!!
