These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.

COVID-19 has spread in all the countries of the world. This has led to the closure of educational institutions due to which the examinations are also postponed until the further orders by the authorities.

There are various changes experienced in the education procedure viz. delivering online lectures, online availability of notes and in future, online examinations might be conducted as well.

Experience of attending online classes

The online classes provide the best way to get knowledge in the present circumstances. The colleges are providing recorded as well as live lectures to the students to prevent the loss of education due to the lockdown. One of the best advantages of attending online classes is that it provides easy accessibility to attain knowledge. The lecturers provide their best support to clarify the concepts either by way of taking doubts or through assessments to check the clarity of concepts.

Advantages and disadvantages of online classes

Today's era is the era of technology. However, if there is an option available to choose from online or offline classes, I would prefer offline classes. There are many reasons (advantages) of offline classes as compared to online classes.

Some of the advantages of offline classes are:

  1. Proper mechanism of education: The offline classes follow a proper mechanism for imparting education to the students. The teachers are well-versed with all the techniques to clarify the concepts to the students. Most of the techniques can't be exercised through online classes.
  2. Follows Student-Intellect approach: The teachers use the approach which has the best application on the students of all intellectual level for clarifying the concepts. In offline classes, the teacher often gets familiar with the intellectual level of the students which is not possible in online classes.
  3. Instant clarification of doubts or other queries of the subject.

Despite these advantages, the offline education has some disadvantages as well. These are as follows:

  1. Timebound: The offline classes are timebound and are not easily accessible as compared to online classes. It is because online classes can be easily accessible from anywhere and anytime.
  1. Use of traditional and outdated techniques: The offline classes use the traditional approach of education. The outdated facts/ methods are being learnt by students until such facts are amended in the books.

Tasks for the extra time available

There are various ways to utilise the time available during the lockdown. But, the best way to utilise this time is by making the productive use of it.

I utilise this time by

  • Reading motivation books, newspapers and spiritual books
  • Completing online courses offered by various organisations
  • Preparing for the competitive exams
  • Pursuing any new/existing hobby or skill, i.e. gardening, poetry writing or cooking etc.
