Sathya Adithya Thati from Hyderabad who topped TSICET 2018 exam with 100 percentile marks says time management plays the key role in achieving success in management entrance tests. In a chat with Shiksha, Sathya shared in TSICET preparation and future plans.

Q. How excited are you to secure no 1 rank? Were you expecting to do so well in TSICET 2018?

A.

After the scores were released in order to check for discrepancies, I was expecting a decent rank, probably in 2 digits based on previous year trends. But securing the top-most rank is definitely a surprise and was exciting. I am very happy.

Q. Which other MBA entrance exams did you appear for? If yes, how different is TSICET from them ?

A.

Apart from TSICET, I’ve appeared for other MBA entrance examinations like CAT, XAT, SNAP, NMAT by GMAC, IIFT, etc.

TSICET paper has more questions to solve in a limited time compared to CAT or XAT but more or less at par with NMAT by GMAC. I would say it is lengthy as one would find it difficult to solve all the questions in the limited time.

Each exam has a pattern of its own. It would be unfair to compare different exams based on difficulty as it is the competition which determines the rank. It would be easy or tough, to all the aspirants.

Q. Tell us about your preparation strategy for TSICET.

A.

My preparation had 2 parts:

a) Attending classes regularly,

b) Taking mock tests regularly.

Attending classes helps you stay disciplined and finish the syllabus in timely manner. Taking mock tests and then reviewing the performances will lead to self-improvement. The idea is to maximize the scoring. So, attempt the strongest sections first and then followed by the remaining sections. Also, time management plays a key role in the strategy.

Q. What is the minimum time frame needed to prepare for TSICET, and when did you start off with your preparations?

A.

I had enrolled for coaching at TIME institute and was preparing for various entrance examinations since September. There is no minimum time frame needed to prepare for TSICET but starting early will ensure you cover all loose ends and have enough time for practice.

Q. What did you do to improve your weak areas?

A.

I practiced more questions related to the weaker areas. It ensures different models of questions are covered.

Q. Which books would you recommend for future TSICET aspirants?

A.

I have used TIME coaching material and found them to be sufficient.

Q. Is it important to join a coaching institute?

A.

I think it depends on person to person. It is not mandatory to join one if one can do self-study from different sources. But joining a coaching institute has its own merits. It helps them stay disciplined and to stick to the schedule. Also, the material they provide is customized to the needs of the exam.

Q. How many mock tests did you attempt?

A.

I’ve attempted 3 mock tests for TSICET 2018.

Q. Which university/institute are you aiming for in the Counseling process?

A.

I got admitted to IIM Calcutta through CAT.

Q. Which a specialization you intend to choose in MBA?

A.

I want to work in the fields of consulting, business strategy, and public policy management. So, I’ll choose the specialization and electives accordingly.

Q. Any tips for future TSICET aspirants?

A.

Exam tips: Since TSICET has no negative marking; it has to be used for our advantage. Attempt all the easier questions first and then attempt all the weaker and tougher areas later. Attempt the whole paper without leaving any question.

Preparation tips: Take as many mocks as possible. And reviewing the wrong answers after the mocks is very important. Doing this, will help one improve significantly.

Q. Tell us more about yourself.

A.

I am from Hyderabad. I graduated from IIIT Hyderabad with a dual degree, and worked for Qualcomm for 2+ years. I play Table Tennis, follow Cricket, read books, watch TV shows and movies and like to follow current affairs. My father’s name is Balakrishna and he is a practicing architect. He is the Chief consultant at BK Thati & Associates. My mother’s name is Krishna Priya and she is a bank manager working for Andhra Bank. I have an elder sister Bhargavi who is an architect and is married to Ramakanth who is an architect as well.

Q. What is your future plan?

A.

I want to work in the fields of consulting, business strategy, and public policy management. The idea is to contribute to the nation in whatever best way possible.
