XAT mock test is the main source of exam preparation along with sample questions and other test prep material. It helps candidates in understanding the pattern, difficulty levels, weightage and types of questions. The greatest benefit of the XAT mock tests is that it prepares candidates for any type of question that can be asked in the XAT exam.

The official XAT mock test 2024 was held on October 28, 2023. Candidates had to attempt the mock test on the official website using their XAT 2024 login credentials. However, candidates should continue to practice XAT mock tests until the last week of exam. Shiksha also provides XAT mock tests for practice, which the aspirants can take for free. Check below key highlights of XAT mock test 2024.

Q:   Does XAT provide official mock tests?

A:
Yes, XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) provides official mock tests for candidates to practice and prepare for the exam. The official XAT mock tests are released on the official website of XAT usually a few weeks before the actual exam. These mock tests are designed to provide candidates with a realistic experience of the actual exam and help them understand the exam pattern, difficulty level, and types of questions asked. They also help candidates identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop a strategy to manage time effectively during the exam. In addition to the official XAT mock tests, there are also several other mock tests and practice papers available online, which candidates can use to supplement their preparation. Many coaching institutes also provide mock tests and test series to help candidates prepare for XAT. It's recommended that candidates attempt as many mock tests as possible to assess their level of preparedness and identify areas where they need to improve. However, it's important to remember that mock tests are only a part of the preparation process, and candidates should also focus on building their concepts and practicing regularly to do well in the exam.

Q:   Is XAT tough for candidates from non-Engineering background?

A:

Yes, XAT is slightly tougher for candidates with non-Engineering background as the Quantitative Aptitude section is of higher difficulty level. However, they can crack it if they work on the fundamentals of Math and practice questions of all difficulty levels. It will take time but they will be able to crack XAT's quant section if they dedicate extra hours to it. Aspirants can find XAT study material online in various online study groups. Students’ groups on Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, etc. share study material with each other. One can also download MBA exam preparation apps to get relevant and useful study material.

The good part about XAT is that, it has different cut offs for candidates belonging to different academic backgrounds. As part of its commitment to academic diversity, the institute has lower cut offs for candidates from non-engineering background than candidates from engineering background.

Q:   How can I prepare for XAT 2025 by self study?

A:

If you are planning to prepare for XAT 2025 exam by self study, you need to start early. At least six months before. XAT exam is conducted on the first Sunday of January every year. So, if you start preparing for the XAT  2024 in June or July, you will have good six months to prepare. Make a preparation plan that includes XAT syllabus coverage, problem solving sessions, mock tests and revision. Get hold of best books for XAT. Consult mentors or previous year toppers for selecting the best books for preparation. Join online study groups where you can get the help of mentors and peers for problem solving and clearing of doubts in topics. Work in tough topics first and then move to easier topics.

Solve a large number and variety of XAT mock tests to master the syllabus. You will need to do a rigorous work on XAT mock tests as for candidates who opt for self study, have to rely on practice.

Q:   How many candidates appear for XAT on average?

A:
Xavier Aptitude Test is a very popular Master of Business Administration entrance exam as it is a gateway to about 800 Business-schools in India. About 95,000 students appear for Xavier Aptitude Test every year. Students from diverse fields and academic backgrounds appear for Xavier Aptitude Test to pursue Master of Business Administration courses at top B-Schools in India. In Xavier Aptitude Test 2023, about 98,000 students registered for the Xavier Aptitude Test exam. For more information, you may visit the Shiksha Xavier Aptitude Test exam page. Q:   Which section of XAT question paper is lengthiest?

A:

It depends upon each candidate which section of XAT exam paper they find lengthy. It also depends on the questions chosen for the exam in that particular year. However, it has been seen that Data Interpretation questions are usually lengthy. Overall, the Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation section has the maximum number of questions i.e. 28 and candidates have to solve at least 22-24 questions to meet the desired cut off. So, this section may appear lengthy to the candidate.

To some candidates, the Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning section appears to be lengthy, because of dense reading comprehension passages and reasoning questions based on analogy, series, etc. The fact that both these sections are from the Part 1 of the XAT exam which is of 175 minutes makes it manageable as along with Decision Making, one can solve a decent number of QA-DI and VA-LR questions in 175 minutes.

Q:   When should I start practicing XAT mock tests?

A:

Aspirants should start practicing XAT mock tests after completing the syllabus. The ideal time duration to solve XAT mock tests is October to December. Avoid practicing mock tests before completing the syllabus. The official mock test is released a week before the exam, so candidates must attempt it at least once before the exam. The official and unofficial mock tests are same as the actual XAT exam so that the candidates can get familiar with the exam pattern, test structure of the question paper and get used to handling the exam pressure. It is important to practice XAT mock tests so that you have prior experience of XAT exam. Both official and unofficial XAT mock tests helps in improving accuracy of solving questions because in an exam like XAT all that matters is speed with accuracy.

Q:   Is solving XAT question paper helpful in exam preparation?

A:

Yes, solving XAT question paper is of immense help in exam preparation as one can get an idea of the exam pattern, difficulty level of the questions, and learn time management. The XAT question papers of previous years also give you an idea of what type of questions (Reading Comprehension passages and poem) are asked in XAT. In fact, preparation of Decision Making section is totally dependent on XAT question papers. XAT question papers of previous years also act as practice test providing you with the opportunity to master speed and time management.

Candidates must solve previous years’ XAT questions paper of at least last five years, so that they are aware of the latest type of questions especially poem, RC passages and Decision Making passages.

Q:   Is there any negative marking in the XAT exam?

A:

Yes, the XAT exam has negative marking of -0.25 marks for wrong attempt. Unanswered questions have no negative marking but if there are 8 consecutive unanswered questions, 0.10 marks will be deducted. Thus, the candidates must select questions to solve very carefully in the XAT exam. They should solve only those questions which they know they can solve accurately. The XAT exam has sectional time limit too, so you may not want to waste time on a question that you cannot solve accurately. You stand to lose both time and marks. So be careful in selecting questions in the XAT exam.  The sectional cut off for XAT is usually 80 percent accuracy. Practice a lot of mock tests to develop this skill.

Q:   What is the XAT section wise weightage?

A:

XAT exam is more Quantitative Ability and Verbal and Logical Ability based. Which is why these two sections have more weightage than rest of the section. And between these two, Quantitative Ability has more weightage. In terms of marks too, the Quantitative Ability has maximum weightage, i.e. 28 marks, followed by Verbal and Logical Ability with 26 marks, General Knowledge carries 25 marks and Decision Making carries 22 marks.

Q:   Are six months enough to prepare for XAT?

A:

There is no set time limit to prepare for XAT exam, but you need a minimum of six months for preparation. Ideally candidates need to start XAT preparation by April, however, if they start by June or July too, they can complete the syllabus within time and have ample time for practice of sample papers and mock tests. In order to utilize six months that you have for XAT preparation, do the following:

  • Make monthly, weekly and daily time tables to study and don’t deviate from that routine.
  • Start with subjects which you are your weak spots. We suggest start with studying Quantitative Aptitude and English.
  • For Reading Comprehension, read editorials of newspapers and magazines every day. Read fiction, non-fiction, autobiographies, etc. for strengthening English vocabulary and comprehension.
  • Download MBA exam preparation apps on your phone so that you can revise topics, solve reasoning or English puzzles anywhere when you get time.

Q:   How many XAT mock tests should I practice?

A:

A candidate should practice at least 35 to 40 XAT mock tests during the entire preparation period. The mock tests should be of different varieties and various difficulty levels. Candidates should ideally start practicing XAT mock tests after completing the syllabus. They should start with easy mock tests, then move to moderate mock tests and then to tough mock tests. The motive should be to score above 98 percentile in the high difficulty level XAT mock test by the time the exam day arrives.

In the last two weeks before the XAT exam, candidates must practice at least five mock tests and analyse their performance. It is most likely that by the end of the exam preparation, candidates will be scoring 98 plus percentile in the mock tests. If that happens, they must be rest assured of surpassing that score in the actual exam.

Q:   What type of Reading Comprehension passages are there in XAT?

A:

In XAT, Reading Comprehension passages are usually taken from Philosophy, Psychology, History, Art, research articles. Sometime, the XAT RC section also has poems. These areas are chosen to test the candidates, who are largely Science, Commerce and Engineering graduates, on their ability to come out of their comfort zone and adapt to unfamiliar situations. Out of 26 questions, about 14-16 questions are based on RC passages or a poem. Candidates must target solving about 10 questions accurately to score well. XAT has negative marking so do not mark an option as your answer if you are not 100 percent sure of it.

Q:   What is the weightage of the GK section in the XAT exam?

A:
The General Knowledge section will have 25 questions, each carrying one mark. Students are advised to attempt the General Knowledge section at the end and spare only about 15 minutes to solve it. The sectional time limit allotted to General Knowledge plus Essay Writing is 30 minutes. Students can easily complete the General Knowledge section in 10 minutes. For more information, you may visit the Shiksha Xavier Aptitude Test exam syllabus page. (https://www.shiksha.com/mba/xat-exam-syllabus). I hope this will help you.

Q:   When should I start preparing for XAT exam 2024?

A:

Ideally, candidates should have started preparing for XAT 2024 from March 2023 onwards but it’s not too late. They can even start now and prepare well. About a minimum of six are required to prepare well for the XAT exam as it is one of the tougher MBA entrance tests. Candidates can also opt for coaching classes for XAT as per their convenience. Candidates must study for about six to eight hours daily to be able to cover the syllabus and have enough time for practicing mock tests. Yes, they will need to strike a balance between exam coverage and mock test practice.

However, the capacity of every student is different so, they must decide upon hours of study according to their own capacity and their control over the main topics of XAT. Making a workable plan is very important for XAT preparation, no matter when they start it.

Why Practice XAT Mock Test?

XAT mock test is an important aspect of exam preparation. On an average, XAT candidates must attempt at least 25-30 mock tests during their preparation. The ideal time to start XAT mock tests is in the last leg of exam preparation (October-December).

The difficulty level of XAT exam is higher than other MBA entrance exams, so it is important that candidates prepare for it keeping every aspect in mind. Also, since scoring well in XAT exam depends a lot on meeting the sectional cut-off, aspirants must not leave out any topic. To know how well one is doing in terms of XAT syllabus coverage, there is nothing better than a mock test. It is a good source of practice for the actual exam. It also helps in developing the skill of handling the stress of a speed-based test and in learning application of concepts to solve Mathematical questions in QA and DI and Verbal and Logical Reasoning puzzles.

XAT Mock Test: Key Benefits

Given below are some of the key benefits of practicing XAT mock test:

  • XAT mock test will help in gauging strengths and weaknesses viz the XAT syllabus. Candidates can then alter their XAT preparation to work more on their weak areas.
  • Mock test will help candidates in understanding the XAT exam pattern, test structure, section distribution of questions and difficulty level of questions asked previously.
  • Practicing mock tests will help candidates in gaining confidence in handling tough questions and help them develop ease in tackling pressure in the actual exam.
  • Practising variety of XAT mock tests will expose candidates to all types of questions – tough, easy, lengthy, tricky, etc. so that no question turns out to be a surprise in the exam.
  • Since XAT exam has negative marking, it is extremely important to select the right questions. Practicing mock tests can help candidates in developing the skill of choosing which questions to answer and which ones to skip.
