NEET MDS Syllabus 2026 will be released by the National Board of Examinations, along with the exam notification and information bulletin, tentatively by the second week of February 2026. Knowing the syllabus of NEET MDS 2026 is essential to one's preparation. Based on the NEET MDS 2026 syllabus, a candidate can prioritise the important subjects from the examination point of view, including chapters and topics.

The syllabus of NEET MDS 2026 will cover all the subjects/topics taught during the BDS course as prescribed in the DCI Revised BDS Course Regulations, 2007. The syllabus gives an idea about the preparation strategy to score well in NEET MDS. The NEET MDS 2026 exam is likely to be conducted in the third week of April 2026. Q:   What is the NEET MDS syllabus?
A: 

The syllabus of NEET MDS exam is the same as what students have studied for their BDS course. There are a total of 17 subjects which are covered under the NEET MDS syllabus. According to NBE, the NEET MDS syllabus is as per the latest Regulations for BDS courses notified by the Dental Council of India with prior approval of the Government of India. It is expected that the NEET MDS syllabus will remain the same compared to last year. 

Q:   Who sets the NEET MDS syllabus?
A: 

The NEET MDS syllabus is set by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The contents of the NEET MDS syllabus is similar to the BDS course. Explaining the same, NBE has stated, "The syllabus for the exam shall be that of BDS standard and shall cover all the subjects/syllabus taught during the BDS course as prescribed in the DCI Revised BDS Course Regulations, 2007 as amended from time to time."

Q:   How many topics or subjects are covered under the NEET MDS syllabus?
A: 

There are as many as 17 topics or subjects covered under the NEET MDS syllabus. The question paper is divided into two parts. The Part A consists of seven subjects and Part B consists of 10 subjects. There are 14 questions in each subject, barring two subjects, General Medicine and General Surgery, which carry 15 questions.

Q:   Which topics or chapters have the highest weightage in the NEET MDS exam?
A: 

Oral Pathology & Oral Microbiology and Oral Medicine & Radiology are the two chapters/topics which carry the highest weightage of approximately 15 marks each in the NEET MDS entrance exam. Candidates must note that this is based on previous years' analysis. For the upcoming NEET MDS exam, the weightage may differ. Hence, students must give equal emphasis to all subjects or topics. 

Q:   What is the approximate weightage of topics such as Dental Materials, General Medicine and General Surgery in NEET MDS?
A: 

Topics such as Dental Materials, General Medicine and General Surgery carry approximately 14 marks each in the NEET MDS entrance exam. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) does not release the exact topic-wise weightgae of NEET MDS exam. Moreover, the past year NEET MDS question papers are also not released by NBE. Hence, the exact makrs or weightage prediction is difficult. The approximate weightage mentioned here is based on previous years' student reactions. 

Q:   Has there been any change in the NEET MDS syllabus?
A: 

It is expected that the NEET MDS syllabus for 2025 will be the same as last year. Last year also, there was no change in the NEET MDS 2025 syllabus. The syllabus of NEET MDS is based on the BDS curriculum, which they had studied while pursuing their undergraduate Dental course. Talking about the NEET MDS syllabus, the exam conducting authority NBE has stated, "The syllabus for the exam shall be that of BDS standard and shall cover all the subjects/syllabus taught during the BDS course as prescribed in the DCI Revised BDS Course Regulations, 2007 as amended from time to time."

NEET MDS 2026 Exam Pattern

The NEET MDS question paper carries two parts. While Part A carries seven subjects with 100 questions, the second section or Part B carries 10 subjects or sections totalling 140 questions. The total number of questions is 240. NEET MDS 2025 will have time-bound sections. While Part A duration will be 75 minutes, Part B duration will be 105 minutes.

Q:   What is the NEET MDS exam pattern?
A: 

NEET MDS is a computer-based exam of three hours duration with two time-bound sections. Part A was for 75 minutes and had 100 questions. Part B had 140 questions to be solved in105 minutes. The timing of the exam was 2 PM to 5 PM. There were a total of 240 objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs) from the NEET MDS syllabus. Each question has four marks and there will be negative marking of one mark for each wrong answer. The following table brings the overview and structure of the NEET MDS exam pattern.

The NEET MDS 2025 exam pattern has been revised from last year. 

Q:   What is the mode of the NEET MDS exam?
A: 

The NEET MDS exam is conducted in online mode or computer-based mode. Candidates will have to take the test on the computer at the designated exam centre. The questions will appear on screen, and test-takers will have to mark the correct answer option with the help of a mouse and click on the Submit tab. Unless they submit the answers, it won't be considered for marking. During the exam, candidates are given an option to mark any question, whether attempted or not, for review, which means that the candidate has been given an option to go through these questions again before the examination time ends.

Q:   What is the total number of questions in NEET MDS exam?
A: 

The NEET MDS exam consists of 240 objective type multiple choice questions (MCQs). Each question carries four answer options, out of which candidates have to select the correct answer option and mark it. Divided into two parts, the Part A of the question paper will have 100 questions and Part B of the paper will have 140 questions.

Q:   Will there be negative marking in NEET MDS?
A: 

Yes, the pattern of NEET MDS clearly states that penalty marks will be deducted for incorrect answers. Each correct answer will fetch four marks and for each wrong answer, there will be negative marking of one mark. Hence, the negative marking applied in the NEET MDS exam is 25 per cent. No marks will be awarded or deducted for unattempted questions. 

Q:   Is there any limit to attempt NEET MDS exam?
A: 

No, there is no limit in terms of the number of times a candidate can attempt or appear for the NEET MDS exam. Moreover, the eligibility criteria of NEET MDS also does not mention any upper age limit. Hence, eligible candidates can appear for NEET MDS exam as many times as they wish to. However, aspirants must fulfill the eligibility criteria as stated by NBEMS, which is completion of BDS course from a recognised dental institute or university, and completion of one-year compulsory rotatory internship within the stipulated date. NEET MDS is conducted once a year, hence, within a year, an aspirant can only appear for the exam once. 

Q:   Does solving the previous year NEET MDS question papers prove helpful?
A: 

Yes, solving previous years NEET MDS question papers plays a vital role and has been proven beneficial as well. Solving previous years question papers helps the candidate to analyse themselves thoroughly and gives a clear picture of their exam preparations. Candidates get a proper insight into their current situation and help them strategise and plan their preparations accordingly. However, NBE or the exam conducting body does not release the NEET MDS question papers. Hence, students can either rely on their mentors or professors, or previous year candidates' memory based questions.
