The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) has received formal approval from the Ministry of Education to establish an off-campus centre at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. This strategic move is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to strengthen India’s trade education and research ecosystem.
UGC Approval Granted Under Section 3 of UGC Act
The off-campus centre was approved under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, after IIFT fulfilled all compliance requirements detailed in the Letter of Intent (LoI) issued in January 2025. These included:
- A roadmap to establish a multidisciplinary institution catering to over 1,000 students
- Availability of qualified faculty and robust academic programmes
- Plans for a permanent campus
- Development of a state-of-the-art library and infrastructure
The new campus is sanctioned as per the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023.
Flagship MBA (International Business) Programme to Be Offered
The IIFT GIFT City centre will be located on the 16th and 17th floors of GIFT Tower 2. It will offer the institute’s flagship MBA (International Business) programme, alongside short-term training courses and research initiatives in areas of international trade and commerce.
This development supports IIFT’s mission of producing globally competitive trade professionals equipped with modern skillsets and policy understanding.
Union Commerce Minister Congratulates IIFT
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, congratulated the institute, stating:
“Heartiest congratulations to @IIFT_Official on getting approval to open its new off-campus centre in @GIFTCity_, India’s global financial hub. This paves the way for training talent in the institute’s flagship programme, MBA (International Business), besides short-term training programmes and research in the area of International Trade.”

The modes of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade course admissions are offline and online. Admission to various postgraduate and Certificate courses is based on merit and entrance exam scores. At the postgraduate level, the deemed to be university offers M.A. MBA, and various other courses to students. The deemed-to-be university also provides Certificate Executive M.A., Ph.D., and various other courses to students.
Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) Delhi offers Executive Post Graduate Diploma programmes. IIFT Delhi offers Executive PGDM courses in Global Human Resource Management (EPGD-GHRM) and International Business (EPGDIB) specialisations in a part-time mode (Weekends). Selection to these courses is done based on merit in the group discussion and personal interview round conducted at the IIFT Delhi campus.
