The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta has announced the launch of two forward-looking academic programmes aimed at addressing emerging needs in business and governance. These include a one-year specialisation in Infrastructure Management and a new Executive PhD programme for senior professionals. In addition, the institute is preparing to roll out a comprehensive online MBA programme designed for working professionals and aspiring leaders.
Specialised Infrastructure Management Programme to Meet Sector Demands
The one-year Infrastructure Management programme is being introduced in response to India’s rapid urbanisation, infrastructure expansion, and population growth. The programme is tailored to equip future leaders with the tools to handle complex challenges in infrastructure development.
Bhaskar Chakrabarti, Dean of Academic Programmes at IIM Calcutta, said, "India's rapid urbanisation, expanding population, and ambitious infrastructure projects demand skilled managers who understand both the technical and strategic dimensions of infrastructure development."
He added that the curriculum will blend core management principles with cutting-edge insights into project financing, AI in infrastructure, urban planning, and design thinking—skills critical for building sustainable and future-ready infrastructure systems.
Executive PhD Programme for Senior Leaders Launching October 2025
Starting this October, IIM Calcutta will launch an Executive PhD programme targeted at seasoned professionals from industry, civil services, policymaking bodies, and related sectors. The programme aims to offer a flexible academic pathway for professionals to transition into research, consulting, or academia.
Professor Saikat Maitra, Chairperson of the Doctoral Programme, stated:
"The Executive PhD programme will build on and substantially expand IIM Calcutta's unmatched research and teaching strengths as India's oldest management institution."
He emphasized the goal of creating a cadre of scholar-practitioners who will bring cutting-edge research insights to their professional domains and contribute to management thinking and policy innovation.
Online MBA Programme to launch soon for Working Professionals
In a move to expand access to high-quality business education, IIM Calcutta is also planning to launch a comprehensive online MBA programme. Designed with flexibility in mind, this initiative will target working professionals who seek to upgrade their managerial capabilities without taking a career break.
Yes, IIM Calcutta offer one-year residential Executive MBA in a full-time mode. Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements can apply. Applicants must have a valid GMAT score to get selected. IIM Kolkata MBA Ex course fulfils the criteria to be considered as MBA as per the global rankings viz Financial Times. The admission process involves online registration, shortlisting of students based on GMAT score and academic performance along with other criteria, and finally the personal interview round.
Furthermore, the institute also offer postgraduate programme for executives for visionary leadership in manufacturing.
Yes, IIM Calcutta offers a two-year residential MBA course in a full-time mode. The selection criteria for this course involve CAT registration, shortlisting based on CAT score, personal interview, writing ability test, points awarded for academic diversity at bachelor's or master's level, and work experience. Moreover, the institute also offers a two-year postgraduate Diploma in business analytics (PGDBA) course. It is a residential course. Candidates seeking admission to this course have to appear for the PGDBA entrance test.
