What is Friction?
The friction acts as the resistance between the relative motion of the surface, materials sliding against each other, and the layers of the fluids. It resists the motion acting between the surfaces.
Types of Friction
The types of friction are listed below:
- Dry friction – It resists the lateral motion between the connect of two surfaces.
- Fluid friction – It resists the relative motion between the layers of the fluid.
- Lubricated friction – It is a part of fluid friction, only the separation of two surfaces takes place with a lubricant fluid.
- Skin friction – The force that acts between the solid surfaces resist the fluid’s motion across the skin’s surface.
- Internal Friction – This force resists the motion of deformation.
What is Fluid Friction?
The fluid friction can be described as the force acting between the two moving objects between the fluid layers. The viscosity is the internal resistance, and the viscosity of the fluid is known as thickness.
All the fluids share some resistance, and that is why they are viscous in nature. The fluids that share no resistance to shearing whatsoever is known as inviscid fluid or ideal fluid and are not viscous.
Fluid Friction for Class 11
The chapter 'Properties of Fluids' holds a weightage of 6 marks. It includes 3 questions in total, consisting of one objective type question of 1 mark, one very short question of 2 marks, and one short question of 3 marks making a total of 6 marks.
Examples of Fluid Friction
Some of the examples of Fluid friction are as follows:
- When there is a wet surface between the two ceramic plates, they hold up to each other and do not fall when holding only one place, it shows the fluid friction.
- Whenever any object is dropped off into the water surface or directly in the water or pool, the splash of water depends on the fluid friction.
- It can also be noted that the light dust particles move faster on the water’s surface due to the water’s high velocity on the top layer or the low dynamic fluid of the water.
- Riding a bike, air resistance is all examples of fluid friction.
