CTET Child Development and Pedagogy Preparation Tips 2026

CTET CDP Preparation 2026: The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2026 exam for 21st Edition will be conducted on February 8, 2026 by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The CTET 2026 is an eligibility exam conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates as Classes 1 to 8 teachers. The CTET exam comprises two papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2. The CTET Paper 1 is for Classes 1-5 teachers, and Paper 2 is for Classes 6-8 teachers. Both papers comprise 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) each.

As we know that CDP section is a mandatory in both Paper 1 and 2. Its syllabus is divided into three main areas including Child Development (Elementary School Child), Concept of inclusive education and Learning and Pedagogy. The aim of this section is to test the knowledge and understanding of the candidate about the child psychology, development principles, learning process and educational practices. The CTET notification was released on November 27, 2025 and the last date to apply was December 18. The city slip was released. 

Q:   What are the subjects in CTET syllabus?
A:

CTET exam has five subjects in Paper 1 and four subjects in Paper 2. CTET Paper 1 subjects are shared below-

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy
  2. Language-I
  3. Language-II
  4. Mathematics
  5. Environmental Studies

CTET Paper 2 subjects are-

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy
  2. Language-I
  3. Language-II
  4. Mathematics and Science/ Social Studies or Social Sciences
Q:   Does the CTET syllabus change every year?
A:

The CTET syllabus remains the same every year. The change in the syllabus or pattern is notified by the CBSE in the notification. CTET is a national-level eligibility exam which is conducted as per the syllabus prescribed by the NCTE.

Child Development and Pedagogy is one of the common sections in both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers of the CTET 2026 exam comprise 30 questions from the CTET CDP section that focuses on the educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years (for Paper 1) and 11-14 years (for Paper 2).

  • Thorough understanding of syllabus: The key to scoring high in the Child Development and Pedagogy section is having a thorough understanding of the complete syllabus and exam pattern. Candidates should undertake deep studies of every topic prescribed under the CTET syllabus by the CBSE to have a strong grip on this section. This will ultimately enhance the CTET scores.
  • Practice CTET question papers & mock tests: Once candidates get a good hold over the CTET syllabus, they should start practising as many as CTET previous year question papers and CTET mock tests. By solving the CTET questions on Child Development and Pedagogy, candidates will get to know their weak and strong areas. This will help them improve their weak areas.
  • Attempt all questions in the exam: As per the CTET marking scheme, one mark is awarded for every correct answer and there is no negative marking in the exam for wrong answers.
