Paper Pattern For Every Group
In every UG group, a set of 80 questions carries 320 of the 800 marks. Thus the group a candidate decides to pick and which subject the candidate chooses can make or break the score. Each question carries 4 marks. So there are 20 questions equal 80 marks (10%), 50 questions equal 200 marks (25%) and 80 questions equal 320 marks (40%).
| Group | Courses it leads to | Paper split (number of questions) | Biggest block |
| PCB | Agriculture, Fisheries, Horticulture, Home Science, Forestry, Veterinary Science | General Knowledge 20, Physics 50, Chemistry 50, Biology 80 | Biology: 80 questions, 320 marks (40%) |
| PCM | Agriculture, Horticulture, Home Science, B.Tech programmes | General Knowledge 20, Physics 50, Chemistry 50, Mathematics 80 | Mathematics: 80 questions, 320 marks (40%) |
| PAG | Agriculture, Fisheries, Horticulture, Home Science, Forestry, B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering, Biotechnology) | General Knowledge 20; Agriculture Physics 25 and Chemistry 25; Agriculture Zoology 25 and Botany 25; Agronomy 25, Animal Husbandry & Dairying 10, Horticulture 15, Agriculture Engineering 10, Agriculture Statistics & Mathematics 20 | Agronomy to Statistics section: 80 questions, 320 marks (40%) |
| PHS | B.Sc. Home Science only | General Knowledge 20; English 25 and Hindi 25; Sociology 20, Economics 15, Geography 15; Home Science 80 | Home Science: 80 questions, 320 marks (40%) |
Candidates who studied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology in Class 12 can choose either PCB or PCM.
The marking scheme has also changed. UG papers earlier gave 3 marks per correct answer for a 600-mark paper. From 2024, a correct answer earns 4 marks and the paper is out of 800, so any pre-2024 paper you practise on needs its scores rescaled.
Question trends across the 2022 to 2026 papers
Biology has been the easiest and most scoring subject in every reviewed year, while General Knowledge has been the least predictable. The board does not publish topic-wise weightage or official difficulty ratings, so the table below reflects candidate feedback compiled by education portals and covers the PCB-style subjects (General Knowledge, Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
| Year | Overall Level | General Knowledge | Physics | Chemistry | Biology |
| 2022 | Moderate to difficult | Moderate | Easy to Moderate | Moderate | Easy |
| 2023 | Slightly tougher than 2024 | Difficult | Moderate | Easy to moderate | Easy |
| 2024 | Moderate | Moderate | Easy to Moderate | Moderate | Easy |
| 2025 | Moderate to Difficult | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate to difficult | Easy |
| 2026 | Moderate to Difficult | Difficult | Moderate to Difficult | Moderate | Easy |

Question paper pattern that stands out:
Biology scores best. Questions were mostly direct and concept-based, with little interpretation needed. With 80 questions in the PCB paper, a strong Biology section protects the whole score.
General Knowledge is the swing section. Candidates found it the most time-consuming, because it spans current affairs, general science, history, geography and basic agriculture.
Physics and Chemistry stay at Class 11 and 12 level. Reviews describe them as basic-concept papers with formula-based numericals, not tricky multi-step problems.
The structure is predictable. The 2024 pattern fixes the question count per subject for every group (see the table above), so the weight of each block does not change from one sitting to the next.
Important topics by subject
Current affairs, Mechanics, Organic Chemistry and Cell Biology and Genetics topped the 2024 review, the only year with a topic-wise breakdown. The list below follows candidate-reported analyses of the 2022 to 2026 papers, so treat it as a priority order for revision, not a guarantee of what will appear.
| Subjects | Topics Reported Most Often | Level Reported |
| General Knowledge | Current affairs (the largest share), general science, history and geography, basic agriculture | Moderate |
| Physics | Mechanics, optics and light, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism | Easy to Moderate |
| Chemistry | Organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical reactions and equations | Easy to Moderate |
| Biology | Cell biology and genetics, ecology and environment, human physiology, plant physiology | Easy |
| Agriculture (PAG group) | Agronomy, soil science, horticulture, with a mix of theory and application questions | Moderate |
How to solve the previous year papers?
Solve each paper as a timed mock, because the exam gives 180 minutes for 200 questions, or about 54 seconds per question. The marking scheme (+4 and -1) rewards accuracy over volume, since one correct answer cancels out four wrong ones.
Start with your 80-question block. Biology, Mathematics, the Agronomy-to-Statistics section or Home Science carries 40% of the marks, so revise it first and attempt it first.
Rescale older papers. Papers before 2024 were marked at 3 per correct answer out of 600. Convert your score to the current 4-mark, 800-mark scheme before comparing it with a cut-off.
Tag every wrong answer by topic. After two or three papers, the tags show which chapters cost you marks, which is more useful than the total score.
Treat General Knowledge as steady marks. It is only 20 questions (80 marks), but candidates reported it as the slowest section. Keep a running revision of the past year's current affairs and basic agriculture facts.
Stay within the Intermediate syllabus. The UG paper follows the UP Board Intermediate syllabus, and NCERT Class 11 and 12 books are a standard base for the science subjects.
Practice on an OMR sheet. The exam is OMR-based, and answers must be marked with a blue or black ballpoint pen.
