erroneous rule scrapped

In what may come as a good news for students of Nagpur University, the controversial rule barring ATKT (Allowed To Keep Term) students from appearing in final exams of Education degree courses has been dropped.

Following the decision, students who have been 'allowed to keep term' will now be eligible to appear in the final exams of Master of Physical Education (MPEd), Master of Education (MEd) and Bachelor of Education (BEd).

Clarifying on the issue Vice Chancellor SP Kane said the rule was a small error and the amended rule was put in place on Wednesday. The error was rectified through a corrigendum using the special powers of the VC.

Kane further clarified that the amended rule was based on the Ordinance Number 10 of Nagpur University.  According to the special powers vested in the VC, they can use special powers to modify the rule if it is not in consonance with the directives, ordinance, statutes or the Act.

The rule earlier, violated NU’s Ordinance number 10 prescribing the ATKT norms under which a student was required to clear 2/3rd or 50 subjects in order to appear in the final exam of a course.

The university had implemented Choice Based Credit System semester pattern for M Ed (2015-2017 onwards) and MPEd (2016-2017 onwards). The Standard of Passing in the curriculum for ME d the students could not appear for the final exam of the final semester until they cleared all the subjects in the previous semesters.
