B.Tech. in Naval Architecture and Ship Building - Batch of 2020
4.2
It is the best college in India, and even it is better than IIT.
Placements: 100% placement was provided until 2015, and it has decreased now due to the fall in oil price. It might become 100% again, before 2020. This department was started 41 years ago, so we have a lot of alumni in the middle east and other countries. So, if there are placements in naval architecture in India, then CUSAT will be the best to recruit the students.
Infrastructure: The college has a very good infrastructure, and it is one of the best colleges in Kerala, after NIT. This is actually the second biggest campus in Kerala, so you will definitely enjoy the infrastructure on such a huge campus. The buildings are a bit old, but a good fund is provided.
Faculty: The faculty in our college are not much good, but it doesn't matter, self-learning is more important in the college. Now, the college lacks faculty because it recruits only good faculty who have done PhD from the best universities. In future, the college will have many well-qualified teachers.
Other: The alumni provide scholarships for backward students based on their economical background. Sports team participates in many games. We are the champions for years in the main campus.

The campus has various high-tech facilities such as mechanical, electrical workshops; A library; Various labs; A gymnasium; Various sports ground and courts. There are hostels for students of the university. Every hostel has a mess, and the food is also available in various canteens and hotels within the campus.
Faculty: The course curriculum and syllabus of naval architecture & shipbuilding course in Cochin University of Science & Technology are of the latest knowledge, and it is being updated every few years. Cochin University of Science and Technology.
Placements: The placements are very good because it's an esteemed branch with lesser people and more opportunities, mainly outside India. People are taken by not one company, but more than two. At least it is a very good course, and CUSAT makes it easier to get a job in the shipbuilding industry.
Infrastructure: The college has a good environment for studies and have all the facilities like good classrooms, library, computer centre and has facilities to excel in various fields like extracurriculars and sports. It has a university library with plenty of books. It is a very good course to join.
Faculty: It has very experienced faculty members who also had studied from this department only. They are polite and gentle and ready to help everyone everywhere in redeemer sort of situation. They are mostly foreign diploma holders from the country like USA, Japan, France.

My view on marine engineering in my college in Kochi
Placements: You can only be placed if you score an aggregate of 70 percent or above in four years without any supplementary papers. There is no shortage of companies visiting. So the only thing you have to do is study and you will be placed with seventy thousand to eighty thousand per month as your starting salary with many facilities provided by the company.
Infrastructure: The campus is in Kochi, which is the most developed city of Kerela. The college is in the main city, so the college is for enjoying. In terms of infrastructure, the college is awesome. Wi-Fi facilities and computers are provided in the library, where you can get information about the world and for study purpose.
Faculty: The teachers are good enough. They'll help you get detailed knowledge of the subjects. The teachers are most precious to me. They help us with different subjects. The course is good enough and different from others. Rest all you can see by coming to Kochi.

College is very strict as compared to other colleges.
Placements: Almost 7 of the 34 of students were placed in reputed companies like MOL shipping and L&T ports. Students having no back paper at the time of interview were allowed to attend the interview. Shipping companies like MSC, MOL, Shipping cooperation of India and Toms shipping had visited this campus for recruitment. The highest salary offered was 1 LPA and lowest was rupees 20000 per month. Junior marine engineer in ship and project engineer in shipyards were the roles offered to the students. About 10% students were offered internship. No stipend was given for the internship.
Infrastructure: No Wi-Fi facility was provided for B.Tech students. Classrooms and library were good. Good facilities were provided for games and sports. Food quality of canteen was poor. Hostel rooms were just average. Construction is going in the campus most of the time. Lack of Wi-Fi makes assignments and projects preparation difficult. Even though, there is a good infrastructure for sports and games but the facilities provided are very less.
Faculty: Core subjects were taught by the qualified faculty members. Most of them are guest faculty members. Teaching method mostly consists of power point presentation and lecturing. Faculty to student ratio is about 30:1. Industrial exposure was minimum. Lab in charge were well qualified.

The curriculum is a bit old, and everything else here is good.
Placements: I would recommend this course to everyone who loves shipbuilding and architecture. Around 90% of students get placed, and the remaining would opt for higher studies. The alumni strength of the college is very strong, and we can approach them for any help.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are well-equipped with modern technologies, and hostels provide Wi-Fi, but it has a weak signal. The hostel provides good food, and the mess fee is also bearable. We have ship technology canteen, and it has different cuisines, and mostly north Indians like our mess and canteen.
Faculty: The faculty are very helpful and highly qualified. Most of them have Ph.D.s in related subjects and are supportive. They also help us with various projects, and some of the faculty are a bit rude, but others are helpful and caring. Most of the classes are taught in English.
Other: Scholarships are provided by the university.

CUSAT has a very good atmosphere and you can have a wonderful campus experience.
Placements: Placements are pretty good in this course. About 80% of the students got placed in different companies. Average package offered to the students was around Rs.20 Lacs per annum. Top companies recruiting companies include L&T, shipbuilding, Tata consultancy, Cybermarine, Indian register of shipping, etc. Internship starts from the 5th and 6th semester of this course.
Infrastructure: The college is very appealing. You have a very good study atmosphere. The library is very attractive with books on even the smallest topics which we can refer. The lab are very useful and informative. The hostel is pretty nice but not up to the mark. The facilities in the hostel could have been much more better. The mess and canteen is above average. If you are a foodie and find it difficult to adjust with normal cuisine, you may not find the food good. Other facilities like the playgrounds, fitness centres and medical facilities are much more than what we expected.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful in clear even the smallest doubts. To be frank, the teaching is very good except for one or two subjects. The curriculum is a bit more harder than other normal colleges but you get used to it after a period of time. Honestly speaking, the semester exams are bit hard and the chances of getting a back paper are moderate in the first semester. But if you clear the first semester with no back papers you may find the course much more easier.
Other: The Naval architecture and ship building course was my second option as I was not able to achieve my first one so I had to go for the second. But right now, I have no regrets because of choosing this course. The course is splendid and if you are looking forward to a securing job in abroad with a high pay scale, this is the right one.
