IKGPTU BTech Eligibility & Highlights 2025
Punjab Technical University (PTU) has been renamed as I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU). The university offers BTech (four-year) in 29 specialisations at the main campus. BTech is also offered at IKGPTU constituent campuses. Admission is through JEE Main, followed by PTU Counselling. However, at some campuses, admission is done based on merit in Class 12 as well. I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University also offers BTech (Lateral) courses. The admission process for these courses is carried out as per the norms laid by the Punjab government/or the university.

IKGPTU BTech Admission 2025: How to Apply?
Candidates seeking admission to a BTech course at PTU Jalandhar need to fill out an online/offline application form. Students can pay the application fee by Credit Card/Debit Card/Net banking/E-Challan. In the case of E-Challan, the application fee can be paid in any branch of the Indian Bank. The step-by-step process for form filling and submission is as follows:
Step 1: Visit the PTU official website (ptu.ac.in).
Step 2: Register by entering some basic details, such as name, valid email ID, phone number, etc.
Step 3: Login with the Username and Password.
Step 4: Fill out the application form.

Good college with good infrastructure and facilities, and the growth rate is genuinely very fast.
Placements: Around 800 out of 1000 students were placed last year, which is a good sign. The highest package last year was 53 LPA. The average was around 6 LPA, and the median was around 5 LPA. Top recruiting companies were Adobe, Amazon, Capgemini, etc. Top roles offered are software engineers, web developers, etc.
Infrastructure: All the labs are air-conditioned, classes are in good condition, Wi-Fi is also provided, and you can access any book from the library. Facilities here are well-mannered. Everyone is polite, and teachers are genuinely helpful in nature. The college also provides sports, medical, and other facilities.
Faculty: They have a wealth of knowledge, are helpful, polite, humble, and also provide the utmost attention to every student. This course is very relevant for every CSE background student, and especially the teachers here provide the skills that help us in the industry. Overall, they are preparing us to become good cooperative men/women.
Other: I chose this course because ever since I was a kid, I was very much interested in computers and tech-related things. The best thing is that they are providing everything that is needed to help me in the future. Some areas that must be included are project sessions, because for a fresher, projects are the most important thing (now the college is providing them). They conduct the best events in all of Punjab. They hire big singers and influencers, which is a fun aspect.

CGC MOHALI is a great choice for brightening up your future.
Placements: I am a student at this college. As far as I know, that college is giving 100% of placements to students, and the highest package till now by college placements drive is 1 crore in an overseas country. The course that achieves the highest packages is Computer CSE. So, in conclusion, this college is best for placements.
Infrastructure: The college is working on the infrastructure by building new blocks and a new hostel. Upgrading the old blocks according to new technology. Here you see many blocks for a particular Course. Currently, they have 7 blocks and are building more for other courses, and 4 hostels, 2 for girls and 2 for boys.
Faculty: The college is hiring new and experienced faculty and staff. They already have experienced faculty. Curriculum and exams currently, this college is being transformed into a university, so the exams and other curriculum come under autonomous. The difficulty of exams is moderate.

College is good as they give a good placement ratio in 2024.
Placements: The college is overall good, but the placement is not that great. However, in our branch, which is Civil Engineering, our seniors have achieved 100% placements. In CS Engineering, the placement is not as good, and the college is far from the city.
Infrastructure: The college doesn’t have full access to Wi-Fi; in fact, in the hostel, there are only two floors with Wi-Fi, and the speed is below average. The network is also not good in our hostel. You have to struggle to get a good network around the hostel area. Our library has good infrastructure, but they don’t have any useful books.
Faculty: The teachers are not very helpful, but they are qualified from good IITs, and many have cleared GATE as well. However, they are not interested in teaching students and don’t make students industry-ready. The semester exams are very easy; if you study the night before, you are going to clear the exams.
Other: I am from the Civil Engineering batch of 2025. I chose this college just because it is a government institution and has good infrastructure. But the reality of this college is not good; they don’t provide a good college life.

Placements: Batch of 2024, B.Tech Computer Science (CSE). The total students in the course is 120. Students eligible for placements are 115. Students placed 106 out of 115 (92%). The highest package is ₹32 LPA, the lowest package is ₹3.5 LPA, and the average package is ₹8.6 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Amazon, Microsoft, TCS, Infosys, Capgemini, Wipro.
Infrastructure: The labs are decent, but the lack of proper AC makes them quite uncomfortable during the summer. Classrooms also do not have AC, and the Wi-Fi is very unreliable most of the time. The hostel food is, honestly, horrible, with very limited variety and poor taste. Students often have to rely on outside food because the mess food is not up to standard. Even the Wi-Fi in hostels does not work properly, which causes problems for academic work and online classes.
Faculty: Teachers are generally helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Most of them explain concepts well and clear doubts when asked. The teaching quality is good, though it depends on the faculty member, to be honest. The course curriculum is relevant. Updated to an extent with subjects that align with industry standards.
Other: I chose this course because it aligned with my career goals and interests and because CGC University offered good placement opportunities and has a reputable faculty in this field. The best part of the course is the practical exposure through labs, projects, and internships. The faculty is approachable, and there are opportunities to participate in seminars, workshops, and hackathons. Some things can definitely be better. The Wi-Fi rarely works, the classrooms and labs don't have AC, and the mess food is below average.

A college with a good environment.
Placements: This year, the highest package was about 1 crore, and that's a huge amount for a private university. The environment and infrastructure of our CGC University are so good. We also get DCPD classes to prepare for our placements and interviews, which are very helpful for all the students.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is good, but there's a little issue with the Wi-Fi services on campus, not much, just a little bit (adjustable). Labs are facilitated with new-gen processors, quality monitors, and CPUs with quality specs. Classrooms for freshers are good, but need a little improvement in the classrooms of seniors.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, and the curriculum is not very hectic. Everything works in an organized and systematic way. Labs are conducted, and a proper timetable is followed. It all goes very smoothly, whether it is our classes, Mid Sem, or End Sem examinations.
Other: The college provides good facilities according to the fee structure, and also, the college has its own Scholarship Exam, JOSH. I received a 75% scholarship on my tuition fees, which helps me save more and make my degree more valuable financially.

Facts about Chandigarh Group of Colleges.
Placements: In advertisements, they show very high placement figures like 45 LPA or 51 LPA, but these are out of at least 4,000 students from multiple colleges in Landran as well as Jhanjeri. Don't be fooled by advertisements. In reality, the average package is around 3 LPA if you are eligible to sit in the placement drive.
Infrastructure: The hostel has some advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side, Wi-Fi facility is available, and they provide laundry services as well as a gym. However, there are also some drawbacks. The food is often eatable but lacks taste, and the gym is very crowded, making it difficult to complete all workouts on certain days. Additionally, while the laundry service is good, the washing is quite harsh.
Faculty: Faculty members are good, but they are not very helpful because, despite having knowledge, they are unable to effectively teach and help us understand the topics. The curriculum is good, and if you study, you can score well. However, sometimes they return the paper even if you have written the correct answers. If you submit the paper for reassessment, you will definitely pass. They do this primarily because of money.
Other: If you want to take admission, you can take admission in Block 1, which is autonomous.

Q. Which BTech specialisations are offered at IKGPTU?
A. BTech (four-year) is offered in nearly 29 specialisations at the main campus and also through affiliated colleges. Some of the popular specialisations that the university offers are Aeronautical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Textile Engineering, Food Engineering, etc. Admission to all the specialisations is entrance-based.
Q. How good is PTU for BTech?
A. The university has earned a great reputation over the year by providing support to the students. PTU facilitates placement support to students to ensure they grab good career opportunities. Many industry giants such as IBM, Infosys, Amazon, TCS, LG, Walmart, Wipro, Reliance Jio Infocomm and so on participate in the placements drive conducted by the university. As per the NIRF report 2022, a median package of INR 4.50 LPA was offered to UG (4-year) students.
Q. How can I get admission to PTU for BTech?
A. For admission to a BTech course, students’ Class 12 marks along with their JEE Main scores and ranks are taken into consideration. It is also crucial that the aspirant fulfils the minimum eligibility criteria. Further, eligible students with a valid JEE Main score can fill out the application form online (ptu.ac.in). A merit list is released after the conclusion of the application process followed by which selected students are called for counselling. During counselling, seat allotment as per the merit list and reservation policy is carried out.
Q. Does PTU offer direct admission to BTech courses?
A. Yes. Direct admissions are open in case of any vacant seats after counselling. These seats are allotted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Thus, direct admission opens for a few BTech programmes. Candidates seeking direct admission need to visit the main campus. Moreover, a registration fee of INR 1,000 (non-refundable) has to be submitted. If the student gets admission, then it is adjusted in the first semester.
Q. When does PTU BTech Counselling start?
A. Counselling for admission through Class 12 and JEE Main are conducted separately. Counselling for admission on the basis of Class 12 takes place from August to September. Additionally, counselling for students applying with JEE Main scores starts in the month of September and goes on till October. IKGPTU releases the counselling schedule on its official website (ptu.ac.in).
