Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has a large and distinguished faculty of over 1,200 professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and lecturers. Q: How are students allotted hostel in JNU?

JNU has 18 hostels for boys and girls and one complex accommodating married students. The university gives first priority to students admitted in a full-time programmes and have passed their qualifying exam from places outside Delhi. The student must not be a resident of Delhi except those who are admitted to a level at which the student already has a degree or has pursued studies in JNU. Students who have passed their qualifying examinations from Delhi but have stayed in recognised University/College hostels and are not resident of Delhi are also provided hostel. Students who have passed their qualifying examinations from Delhi institutions by making their private arrangements for accommodation but at the same time do not have their family residence in Delhi can also opt for hostel.

Q: Is JNU MCA entrance tough?

JNU MCA admission is based on a valid Central University Entrance Test (Postgraduate) CUET-PG score. CUET PG is an all-India-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). According to test-takers, the General Test was easy and the Domain Knowledge section was moderate to tough. Although the questions were on the expected lines and within the CUET PG syllabus but according to some students, a few questions were out of the syllabus and tricky. So, the JNU MCA entrance is not very tough but can be tricky.

OR Master of Computer Applications (MCA) with at least 55% marks."

Currently, JNU University comprises nearly 14 schools and 50+ centres of study offering over 100 courses with a wide range of specialisations. These courses are offered across various streams such as Arts, Technology, Management, Science, etc. at UG, PG, and doctorate levels. UG courses in JNU Delhi include BA (Hons), BSc, and BTech, among others. Whereas, Jawaharlal Nehru University offers MA, MSc, MTech, and MBA courses at the PG level. It also offers several PhD and integrated programmes. JNU Cutoff 2025 will be updated here once out. The JNU 2024 cutoffs for Courses have been released for BTech, Integrated BTech, and BArch admissions. In Round 4, JoSAA cutoffs spanned from the 26174 to the 34649 values. Among these, the B.Tech. in CSE stands out as a fiercely competitive option for General category students under the AI Quota.

In a comparison of the JNU cutoff in 2024 with that of the preceding two years, it’s observed that JNU has experienced a fluctuating pattern in its closing ranks. The Round 4 cutoff for this course stood at 26280 in 2023 and 23935 in 2022.

The course with the least competition was B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering, with a Round 4 closing rank of 34649 for the General category. Jawaharlal Nehru University from my view.

Placements: There is no campus placement but seniors and professors have some contacts through which you can get placed but don't completely rely on that also. There are various student exchange programs so from that you can get a chance to visit the country of your subject language and get to know the culture and people.

Infrastructure: Campus size is 1,100 acres full of forest vibes and full of animals and beautiful birds. Infrastructure is decent as it is 60 years old in a polluted city like Delhi we are literally living in a paradise. But also due to many posters of political parties sticking everywhere, it feels kind of ugly.

Faculty: It is up to the line in my batch, there are few foreign nationals from Korea and Japan, you can get an idea of quality of education. Some professors are also inclined towards a specific political ideology so if you want good grades then stay away from politics.

Other: It is the best college for foreign language enthusiasts in India.

It is the best university for the M.Sc. in Physics course.

Placements: Our college has excellent placement statistics and about 90-95% of students get placed. The maximum salary package ranges from 15-30 LPA, and the minimum package ranges from 2-7 LPA. The average salary usually ranges between 11-20 LPA. Top recruiting companies for our course include ISRO, BARC, TIFR, etc. About 85% of students got internships. Roles offered include research scientist, data scientist, etc.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure and facilities provided by the college are very good. Each student gets a Wi-Fi limit of 10 GB per day and in the computer science room, it is unlimited. Labs and classrooms are large and well-maintained. Every student is assigned a senior mentor who helps them with any problems during the first year. Hostel food quality is really terrible.

If one has no option, then come to this college.

Placements: It is my first year but I know seniors who got placements last year with salary package of 10 LPA. The highest salary package offered is 33 LPA, but it was an off-campus placement. I also know a second-year student who is doing an internship at MNIT Jaipur and has received offers for an internship from IIT Delhi.

Infrastructure: The course and hostel infrastructure available here are very bad because there is no building for classes on this campus. We have been living in a dormitory for four months and have not been assigned a hostel. New hostels and buildings for engineering students are under construction.

Faculty: Some teachers are very helpful but others are not. Teachers have very little experience but their qualifications are good, though not 100%. Semester exam level is normal and some teachers give questions directly from notes. Pass percentage is approximately 85.

Other: I want to share that if one really wants to do computer science, try not to come to this college. If one has no option, then one can come.

Placements: I have been part of the JNU Placement Cell, and they have helped students secure positions at Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Services, NITI Aayog, and other think tanks, with competitive salaries and prestigious roles. Not only that, but companies also visit for hiring HR and other administrative staff roles.

Infrastructure: There is a 24/7 library where you can study, along with access to round-the-clock Wi-Fi. The classrooms are world-class, providing exposure to top-notch facilities at every corner. The hostel mess offers quality food at very affordable prices, and there is a health center where you can get medical attention at no cost.

Faculty: Faculty members are very student-friendly, and students can approach them easily. The curriculum is flexible, with two exams—one mid-semester and the other at the end of the semester. Students are also required to present their papers. The teachers are highly qualified, including names like Nivedita Menon and Rajesh Rajgopalan, among others.

Great campus life with excellent learning experience.

Placements: Its a foreign language course, and one can not have many expectations regarding jobs. But one thing is for sure if one knows how to have a conversation in a language. He can become an interpreter. There are also jobs regarding translation as tour guides. Freelancing can be a good option. One can expect a maximum of 4 LPA- 5 LPA. Minimum 2 LPA-3 LPA are offered. There is no official data so I can't provide exact data.

Infrastructure: There are 18 hostels, all equipped with mess facility bills ranging Rs. 2500 to Rs. 3500. Classrooms are in good condition some have ACs most don't. There are also gyms in many hostels. There is a stadium. There is a fully equipped health center all for free. Canteens are there in every building with nominal prices.

Faculty: Professors are qualified and friendly. The teaching quality is excellent. There are 2 semesters, monsoon and winter, with 2 or 3 sessional exams and end sem. Course curriculum is up to date. There are many interactive sessions with Russian teachers and authors. Semester exams maintain a good level, pass percentage is better as the sessional passes by.

Other: This course is a good option if one is thinking of doing something different. I mean learning a language while in college will help you later get a job, which sounds good. If you get languages like Japanese, Korean, or Chinese packages are good, between 10 LPA-15 LPA. Some things can be improved like having more modern equipment for learning a language like language labs which are there in some languages not in most. All year many events happen that keep students engaged. The campus crowd is excellent everyone is interesting. Campus is in South Delhi good for connectivity. The campus is lush green with nilgais.

Not good for students who are seeking campus placement opportunities.

Placements: The highest salary package offered is about 12 LPA. There's no need to worry too much about placement, it depends on students. It's more about students rather than a college or university. Around 20% of students got hired.

Infrastructure: Whole campus is Wi-fi enabled, but the speed is quite poor. Campus has a great network overall, so we can access the internet on mobile phones. There are no fees for a hostel and dorms are provided for those students who are unable to get a hostel room from the institute.

Faculty: Faculty members are not good. New staff lacks teaching experience and are unable to teach us without using PPT or handbook notes. Faculty members need to understand that skilled and qualified teachers are required for teaching.

Other: If one wants to enjoy college life, this is the best college. There is no need to worry about anything, as there is a freedom for both boys and girls.

JNU Infrastructure

Spread across 1,019 acres of land, JNU provides state-of-the-art infrastructure to the students. From the library to e-learning rooms, JNU comprises all the basic and modern amenities. Some of these facilities provided by JNU include labs, seminar rooms, a university convocation centre, hostels, a mess, a cafeteria, a sports complex, a convenience store, etc. A few of the infrastructural USPs offered by JNU are discussed below:

Library: The library of JNU is stocked with more than 6.3 lakh books, 5,000 titles, and around 1,600 CDs, journals, and reports. The JNU library consists of a central library that provides students and faculty members with easy access to the course and reference materials through a membership card.
