    Commonly asked questions
    On B.E. / B.Tech Fees
Q:   Do I have to pay the full tuition fee for BTech course at JNU if my family doesn't earn much?
    A:

No, JNU is quite supportive when it comes to financial backgrounds. The university uses a tiered system to make education affordable. If your family's annual income is below INR 1 Lakh, you fall into the "Economically Most Backward" category and your BTech tuition fee is completely waived, meaning you pay INR 0 for tuition. For those with a family income between INR 1 Lacs and INR 5 Lakhs, the fee is heavily subsidized at just INR 20,833 per semester. Only students whose family income exceeds INR 5 Lakhs per year are required to pay the full tuition fee of INR 62,500.

Q:   What are the one-time charges I need to pay during admission in BTech course at JNU?
    A:

When you first secure your seat in BTech course at JNU, there are a few initial costs that you only pay once throughout your entire four-year journey. These include an Admission Fee of INR 1,000 and an Alumni Fee of INR 1,000 to keep you connected with the university network later on. The largest part of the initial payment is a INR 5,000 Security Deposit. The best part about this deposit is that it is fully refundable; as long as there are no damages or dues, you will receive this money back after you complete your graduation or leave the course.

Q:   Are there any fees for SC, ST, or PWD students in BTech course at JNU?
    A:

JNU follows a very inclusive policy for students from reserved categories. If you belong to the SC, ST, or PH (Physically Handicapped) categories, your BTech tuition fee is entirely waived, regardless of what your family's annual income might be. This means you do not have to worry about the INR 62,500 semester charge at all. However, keep in mind that this waiver only applies to the "Tuition" portion of the bill. You will still be responsible for the recurring semester costs like registration, examination fees, and the student activity fund to cover campus facilities.

    On Admissions
Q:   Which courses of JNU are under CUET?
    A:

Admission to Jawaharlal Nehru University BA (Hons) in Foreign Languages, BSc-MSc Integrated Programme in Ayurveda Biology and Certificate of Proficiencey (COP) courses is through CUET (UG). Only the aspirants with a valid score of CUET are eligible to take admission in these courses. Moreover, the application for the same has to be submitted by visiting the JNU admission portal.

Q:   What is JNU JEE Main cutoff 2025?
    A:

Considering the JNU JEE Main cutoff 2025 for the Round 4 seat allotment, for the candidates belonging to the General AI quota, the JEE Main cutoff ranged between 29861 and 36862. Similarly, for the OBC AI quota, the JEE Main cutoff for the latest round stood between 11880 and 14471. The cutoffs are released for only two programs namely CSE and ECE. Between these two, the most competitive is BTech in CSE with lower ranks under All India quotas. Check out the viable BTech options for the General AI quota from the table below:

    Course2025
B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering29861
B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering36862
Q:   When does the official admission cycle for the JNU B.Tech programme start?
    A:

JNU BTech admission aligns with the JoSAA/CSAB counselling process, usually starting around June-July after the announcement of JEE Main results. Admission is based on JEE Main scores, with registration for counselling being mandatory.

    • Entrance Exam: JEE Main (Session 1 in Jan/Feb, Session 2 in April).

    • Admission Process: Counselling and seat allocation through JoSAA/CSAB, with initial registration likely in June-July and merit lists following in July-August.

    • Alternative Routes: Foreign students use DASA counselling.

    • Action Required: Monitor the official JNU and JoSAA portal for the start date of the application process.

Q:   How should candidates approach the two-session JEE Main format for JNU?
    A:

JEE Main is conducted in two sessions, the first in January/February and the second in April. This helps students to appear in both papers if required and correct their scores. If you participate in both exam sessions, the system intelligently recognises your "Best of Two" scores and finalises your All India Rank (AIR). This structure is particularly beneficial for JNU BTech aspirants, as the limited seat capacity (126 seats) requires a very high percentile; having a second attempt in April allows you to refine your performance and meet the university's competitive cutoffs.

Q:   Is Jawaharlal Nehru University best in Delhi?
    A:

Yes, Jawaharlal Nehru University is considered best in Delhi. The university is also ranked 558 by the QS World University Rankings 2026,  130 by the Asian University Rankings - Southern Asia category 2026, and 29 under QS WUR Ranking by Subject rankings QS World Rankings 2026. JNU is ranked 9th under the Overall category and 2nd under the University category by the NIRF 2025. The university is accredited by the NAAC A+ Grade and recognised by the UGC.

Q:   How is the campus life at JNU different from a place like IIT or DTU?
    A:

At an IIT or DTU, you are surrounded almost entirely by Science and tech students, which is great for "tech-only" networking. However, JNU is a multidisciplinary university. This means your friends might be studying International Relations, Languages, or Economics. This environment helps you develop a broader worldview, which is increasingly valued by tech companies looking for "well-rounded" engineers.

Q:   Is the BTech degree from JNU valued as much as one from an NIT?
    A:

While NITs have decades of "engineering-specific" reputation, the JNU brand is globally iconic. In terms of technical infrastructure, JNU's School of Engineering is newer, so it's still building its placement legacy compared to older NITs. However, because JNU is a top-ranked research institution (#2 in India), the quality of faculty and the focus on innovation are very high. If you plan to pursue an MS or MBA later, the JNU name on your resume carries significant weight both in India and abroad, often on par with top-tier institutes.

Q:   Are the placements at JNU good compared to other Delhi-based colleges?
    A:

Colleges like DTU and NSUT are pro at engineering placement because they are located in a corporate hub and have very old placement cells. JNU is catching up fast. While it may not yet have the sheer volume of companies that visit an IIT, it attracts major recruiters who value the analytical depth of JNU students. The smaller batch sizes at JNU can actually be an advantage, as there is less internal competition for the high-paying roles that come to campus. Plus, the low fees mean you get an incredible "Return on Investment" compared to private colleges.

Very good placement for the current year (2025–2026). Cultural events happen almost every week.
Placements: In the 2025–2026 placement session, a very good number of students got placed in highly reputed companies. Most of my seniors got packages above 12–13 LPA, and some got placed off campus with the highest package of 40 LPA+. Top roles like software developer, etc., are offered during on-campus placements.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure for my course is decent. A new building for engineering students is getting ready along with a hostel for more than 2500+ students. Labs are really good, classrooms are fully ventilated and fully AC. There are 21 hostels with very good quality rooms and very tasty food at a very affordable price.
Faculty: Teachers in my course are really helpful and highly qualified. I would say the teaching quality is excellent. The course curriculum is strictly followed by teachers as well as by students. Coming to semester exams, I would say exams are pretty difficult, not too much, but you have to study daily to get good grades. There are 4 exams in one semester (2 quizzes, mid-semester, and end-semester).
Other: The crowd of JNU is very mature and good. Campus life is excellent. Sports facilities are also excellent since this is the best university in India.

Decent enough college (according to the fee and all).
Placements: Decent enough placement if you take the fact into consideration that it is recently established, and also the fact that the faculty are not up to that mark. The highest on-campus package is around 18 LPA, and off-campus is 36+LPA. The median package of 2024 was 8 LPA, so yeah, it offers a decent package for what its fee is.
Infrastructure: The hostel could be way better, especially for B.Tech students, as we are the highest fee paying students in JNU. The hostel (Damodar) is roughly 2.54 km away from ELC, where our classes are conducted, and other labs like the computer lab are still 1.54 km away, so that is also an issue, as we don't have any buses from Damodar.
Faculty: Faculty are like children, they will teach you everything if they like, or they will leave everything if they are not willing to. Some are like they are said to teach on gunpoint, and some are like they just read the topic yesterday and are teaching us today.
Other: A lot of other courses students, diversity in its speak.

A college that is full of natural and intellectual beauty.
Placements: The placement percentage is around 40%. Packages aren't yet disclosed, but the maximum is 39 LPA. Top recruiting companies include S&P Global, Linkiss, Antino Labs, Barclays, IBM, and various other startups. Roles offered are SCRUM master, data analysis, application developer, devOps and many more.
Infrastructure: 24/7 Wi-Fi, a hostel with good food, and a living facility at a very affordable price. A 24/7 open central library with a very versatile and large collection of books and journals, newspapers, articles, and many more things. A different cyber library for students who are pursuing CS Engineering.
Faculty: All the facilities are knowledgeable and well-qualified. Teaching standards are also very good. Standard books are followed as part of the curriculum. We are encouraged to work in teams on real-world projects. So it is making us industry-ready. Exams are, as usual, in engineering colleges, I will regard them as average, neither very tough nor easy. The pass percentage is also good.

Our college is overall nice, and it's improving every year.
Placements: In my university, the School of Engineering is new, and it was started in 2018, the first batch graduated in 2022. So placement is average, but it's improving every year. Companies like IBM, S&P Global, Amdocs, Emphasis, Antino, etc., have come, and students were placed.
Infrastructure: Our building for the School of Engineering is under construction, and it may take up to 2 years to finish. Our current classes are going on in ELC (Engineering lecture complex), which is good with good benches, a projector, and good Wi-Fi, but still not the best. At present damodar hostel is allotted to engineering students, but students can also take other hostel also in the university. Hostels are overall average because they are old. The best hostel at present is Barak. The quality of food provided in the hostel is decent.
Faculty: Teachers are nice, and they are well-qualified. Some of them are also very chill and not the typical university professor. Our curriculum is similar to that of IIT Delhi, and it includes everything that the present industry requires. Semester exams are not very difficult, but they are also not very easy, and there is relatively marking in exams.
Other: The campus crowd in JNU is nice, and events and festivals are also good. The university also provides education fees for students on the basis of their parents' annual income.

Good faculty members, not good placements.
Placements: Placements are quite low, considering we would be the 5th batch for a university that has a great name. Right now, for the 2027 batch, there are no companies that have come for an internship. So choose wisely, as placement reports aren't published.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is decent, and the hostel is something you would love for its affordability. The classroom is decent, library is filled with good books. Mess is okay-ish, and canteens are affordable. The medical facility is also decent. Sports are okay-ish (I am not a sports person, so not an actual complaint). The gym totally needs to be improved.
Faculty: You'll have top-notch faculty, no doubt about that. You will have faculty who genuinely want to teach. You'll have teachers who have taught in foreign universities and are holding Ph.Ds from IITs. So that's quite good. The curriculum is updated so that it won't be an issue. I don't have an idea about ECE labs, though.
Other: I chose this course because of the JNU tag, and I wasn't getting Comp Sc anywhere. There are no fests (like grand ones), it's like school programs where you sit in an auditorium to watch people getting awards for their accomplishments, and a few people performing a dance. You would beat the heart of Delhi, so surrounding is great.

Faculty members are good, and the infrastructure is also good.
Placements: My overall experience has been good. The placement cell regularly shares internship opportunities, and many students get internships. Placements are satisfactory. Companies like S&P Global, IBM, Amdocs, Emphasis, Antino, visited the campus last year and this year. The average package is decent, and students with good skills can get better offers.
Infrastructure: There is Wi-Fi available on campus with unlimited data in JNU hostels, classes, library, and labs. There is high-speed data. Hostel room conditions are satisfactory. Mess food is better, and it is at a very low price. Many canteens are available in JNU. There is a health center for students, and it is good, and all facilities are free. There is a stadium for sports, and in most of the hostels badminton court and a volleyball court.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, and most of the faculty have done their PhD in various subjects. Teachers are very helpful, and they teach well. All teachers support students to do better in their in life. The paper is not so difficult, it is moderate level exam. Many of the students are passing.
Other: Many events are happening on campus. For connectivity, there is busses in campus by DTC.
