MAKAUT is a premier public university located in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education  (AICTE), as well as accredited by the NAAC. Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology offers a multiplicity of programs through over 200 affiliated colleges. As oer the NIRF 2024 report, MAKAUT Kolkata is ranked at the band of #101-150.

MAKAUT University accepts both merit and entrance based exam scores. The university conducts CET exam in June for admission to courses such as BSc, MSc, BBA and BCA courses. MAKAUT conducts JEMAT for admission to MBA and MHA courses.
