Top institute of biotechnology.
Placements: Placement is very bad, especially for our department. Biotechnology core companies are very few; most placement is done for B.Tech students, especially CS-aligned branches. The highest CTC is 56 LPA, and we do not get that even in dreams. Our package starts at 4 LPA, and the highest is 11.2 LPA. Some people get jobs in some other field, not in biotechnology. Few go abroad for jobs, mostly in Austria. The college gives internships, and we can also try for internships; most companies easily give internships as we are NIT students.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is very big and near the city centre. In the first year, there are so many restrictions that we can not use gym and seniors ragging juniors is very common. There is a big library but not a hall for studying; other students come and disturb others. Classrooms are large and equipped with Wi-Fi, as is the library and hostel. Most hostels are very old and we have to live with 3 friends in a room up to the final year, which is a maximum of 2 people. Hostel food is very bad and not eatable but there is no other option. Our college medical unit is the worst and needs improvement.
Faculty: Attendance is a big issue; if attendance is less than 75%, your first grade is deducted. You may not like the teaching style of professors but you need to adjust to their methodology. All faculty are highly talented and qualified. The biotechnology course is demanding and we have NIT status. Our curriculum is the best in India, mostly practical-based. semester is very hard to pass. Many things, like practicals, assignments, vivas, major and minor projects, internal and external, all need to perform well .
Other: The college hostel and warden are very strict; we feel like we are stuck in jail; there is no freedom .
Is NIT Durgapur private or government?
