NIT Durgapur was ranked at 44 under the 'Engineering' category by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2024 rankings. BTech is the flagship programme of NIT Durgapur, admission to which is based on JEE Main score. Once BTech is completed, students get to participate in the placement drive. The 2024 placement session concluded with 72.08% of the BTech batch placed. A total of 568 job offers were given to BTech students. NIT Durgapur average package for BTech stood at INR 7.35 LPA and the highest package offered was INR 51 LPA.

NIT Durgapur does not provide a BSc programme, but an Integrated BSc + MSc programme in Chemistry. The duration of the programme is five years. It leads to a dual-degree, i.e. a BSc and an MSc degree in Chemistry. NITD has an intake of 19 students for the five-year programme. Admission to the programme is based on JEE (Main) ranks and seats are allocated through JoSAA/CSAB counselling.
