Good placements and infrastructure.

Placements: Good placements for M.Tech in NIT Trichy. All the students of my senior batch got placed. The average package for 2016 batch M.Tech CSE was more than 10 LPA (CTC). The current 2017 batch is almost placed. Current batch statistics will be given once placement season ends after April 2017. A wide range of companies visits for CSE placements here (DE Shaw, Oracle, IBM, Qualcomm, Cisco to name among a few). Roles offered to the students vary from developers, network analysts, software engineers etc. Plenty of chances for bagging internship during the 1st year of M.Tech course ( generally some companies visiting for placement for M.Tech final years offer internships for the 1st years). Stipends paid by the companies vary from 20k to 50k per month. But most internships are for a year duration. 3 month vacation period internships are rare for M.Techs.

Infrastructure: The climate of Trichy is quite hot especially during the summer. There are plenty of hostels on campus. Few have water problems (both drinking and general) which are usually solved. M.Tech students have 2-seater hostel facility for the 1st year and single-seater hostels for the 2nd year. The rooms are spacious. B. Tech students have some concerns regarding hostels on space and facilities. However, common rooms with ACs and televisions are provided in almost all hostels. A wide range of messes to choose from (North Indian, South Indian, pure veg and regional messes are present on the campus). Wi-Fi facility is available in all the hostels. Many grounds, sports facilities, and gym centers are present. Multiple fast food places and restaurants are present at convenient locations but students generally prefer to taste food outside the campus and in Trichy city also. Computer science department has excellent air-conditioned lab facilities for all of its students. There are computing facilities for all the institute students where internet can be accessed round the clock. Except for sporadic water issues in the 1st year of M.Tech, I never faced any infrastructure issues.

Faculty: Regarding guidance for M.Tech scholars, most of the faculty members are quite helpful and qualified. The dedication provided during the academic research is commendable. We had a team of TCS professionals explaining the real-time security issues in organizations as an addition to our network security elective. M.Tech CSE has full coursework during the 1st year and project during the 2nd year. The coursework is quite hectic similar to B. Tech curriculum with multiple subjects and credit system is followed. The attendance policy is very strict. Projectors and other tools are utilized by the faculty when required. Most of the faculty try to make teaching interactive. I never faced any problem to meet the faculty during my course. The course curriculum for M.Tech CSE is same as that of B.Tech CSE and thus some difference of innovation is needed.

Other: NIT Trichy is quite a big campus and one should be ready to drive a bicycle almost everyday to attend classes, messes etc. Situated about 20 km from Trichy city, ample buses are present from the city to campus. The majority of the people in Trichy cannot understand or speak Hindi. Girl scholars have a restriction during night time wherein a curfew is enforced for them after 9:00 PM. Multiple fests are organized throughout the year which draws crowds from all over India. One of the premier NITs in our country. The campus culture is very good. Placements are excellent for CSE and ECE students and decent for other branches.
