B.Sc. in Economics - Batch of 2028

Absolutely recommend this one.
Placements: Placements are absolutely based on your CGPA throughout your college years. Sometimes, placements are international for top-performing students. On average, 70% of students get placed, as 10% go for higher studies, and the remaining 20% try for outside placements.
Infrastructure: The hostel is extremely beautiful, but it is only for boys. There is no girls' hostel facility. Hygiene is maintained, and the environment is friendly among all types of students. There is no ragging at the extreme level seen in other colleges. Students are free to talk to their juniors.
Faculty: Teachers are extremely helpful. If you face any problems, there are mentors to help you out. Teaching is at a 4.5 level, but I recommend it as it is a home university. The exam patterns and marking schemes are much easier than in other universities.
Other: Economics honors is a very prestigious course studied at the Presidency. Elite people like Amartya Sen and Abhijit Vinayak have graduated from here. We are extremely proud of them and try to idolize them and reach that level.

It is an amazing campus life but a hectic course.
Placements: About 7 out of 25 students who appeared for placements were placed with a salary package of 5 LPA. Placement offers came from PriceWaterhouse and Earnst and Young. All students are placed in PWC as analysts. Since it is a Bachelor's course without any diploma, the only role offered is analyst role.
Infrastructure: We have Wi-Fi, labs, and air-conditioned classrooms in our college. The central library is well-equipped with an e-learning center dedicated completely. Books for UG courses are available in the library. The hostel is accommodative. However, the hostel canteen is out of service while there are two college canteens serving food at subsidised rates.
Faculty: Faculty members are the main problem in our college. Although most of them are qualified and teaching quality is superb, they are not student-friendly in any way. The course curriculum is quite relevant but does not make us industry-ready. Passing is an ordeal. Faculty members will always find ways to award you the lowest marks possible. While a majority do manage to pass, the marks they get are on the lower side.
Other: The campus life is excellent with a lot of sports, fests, and events ongoing at any given time. The reason for choosing the course is personal and the best thing about this course is it allowed me to opt for any elective subject for the first and second years.

The economics department of our university is very good, it has 2 noble laureates as our alumni.
Placements: The placements after graduation are very rare from our department because most students from our department go for M.Sc from DSE, JNU, etc., they either enter into education sectors i.e schools, college or into the corporate sector after their masters. Our alumni network is very strong thus after completion of masters' students could have a good life ahead.
Infrastructure: Our university is recently renovated and thus added various new infrastructure. Classrooms are very well furnished, and the economics department has one computer laboratory dedicated to the students with research. The hostel is available for both boys and girls. The cost of accommodation is very minimal, the rent is near about 150-200 rupees with 1300-1600 food, electricity charges. The campus is safe.
Faculty: The professors of our department are highly educated and most of them are alumni of our university. They are very cooperative, encouraging and they would be just like our friends. Our syllabus is based on UGC guidelines but there are few inclusions made by the authorities because it is one of the autonomous state universities. The semester examination pattern is the pattern. B.Sc. economics honors have 6 semesters in total. The marking system has both internal and end-semester examinations. The level of toughness is good, though if students concentrate in the classroom it won't cause many problems getting good marks.

Our college used to be one of the bests, but now it just has a brand name.
Placements: Students from our university are well-placed. Reputed companies from all over the world visit our college for placements. Probabilities of placements are higher for M.Sc students as compared to B.Sc students. B. Ed students are also hired with average pay.
Infrastructure: Our university has recently renovated after it completed its 200 years. Wi-Fi is provided for the students as well as for teachers. Separate libraries are available for science and arts' students. Medical facilities, badminton room and 2 cafeterias are also available.
Faculty: Faculty members are not as amazing as it used to be. Our department is understaffed, so teachers from our other colleges come as guest lecturers. They are knowledgeable, but they lack proper teaching skills. But few teachers have good teaching skills.

Review of Presidency University, Kolkata.
Placements: The placement committee invites a few companies to our campus, and notable they are Deloitte, D E Shaw. However, most of the students opt to pursue Masters, so only a few students attend placements. The college doesn't have an internship cell. Everyone who attends the placements got placed in their respective choices.
Infrastructure: It is one of the few colleges having the modern infrastructure the classrooms have state of the art teaching equipment. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled along with 3 central libraries for different streams encompassing thousands of books. The college has a common recreation room which houses a table tennis table and badminton court.
Faculty: The course is a blend of statistics and economics with a prime focus towards the latter. Along with this, a student has to mandatory choose 3 electives each year apart from the majors to facilitate continued knowledge propagation in various streams.

Satisfied with the overall learning we got from the course.
Placements: Placements is good as whoever wants a job gets placed. But mostly students go for post graduation and not opt for placements. Still the 10% batch who SAT for placements got placed. Roles offered varied from analyst to IT related roles as well. Deloitte and MU Sigma are some of the good companies which came for placements. Regarding internships, there is no as such compulsion to do an internship, however, one can always do something under college professors or get one from outside.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is really amazing. Classrooms are very spacious and have writing boards, projectors and screens as well as notes screening machines. Labs have sufficient number of computers with the latest versions for the entire batch. Library has the best resources one could find across universities in Calcutta. We never had to purchase a book, we always got all the books through library only. Other than that, there were e-resources which we used for our projects.
Faculty: Course curriculum is properly structured and it covers the subject matter very well. All the 6 semesters were planned and timeline followed. There were elective courses for 4 semesters which we could take from across different courses in the university. Faculty is also good with lot of guest lecturers taking subjects each semester from renowned institutes.
Other: The atmosphere of the college and peer group is very diverse. You get the feel of the college life once you are here. There are so many extra curricular activities that I don't even know about them all. Derozio Memorial Debate is one of the flagship events of the economics department.

Good infrastructure and faculty, worth joining.
Placements: The placements were quite satisfactory. The average placements went around 4 Lacs. The highest placement was around 7-8 lacs. There is a placement cell in the college headed by a group of students which help the students to get placed. The companies which visited the campus were quite reputed ones.
Infrastructure: The campus is a fully Wi-Fi enabled campus. There are separate common rooms for boys as well as girls. The common rooms have facilities of indoor games as well. The library has a wide range of books to help the students. The quality of food available in canteen is quite good and fresh.
Faculty: The faculty members are very knowledgeable. They helped us in the projects undertaken by us. The student to faculty ratio was approximately 20:1 in my department. The course curriculum was quite helpful as it covered almost all the domains useful in the industry life.

Great university with total perfection in education, infrastructure, campus life and placements.
Placements: Presidency University doesn't offer placements for all the courses and subjects. Mostly, on-campus placements are conducted for the economics and the statistics departments. Students from both these departments get placed in recognised companies like HSBC, HP, Ernst & Young, etc. There's a separate dedicated cell in Presidency University to look after placements and other related issues. The highest salary package offered is 13 LPA. The average salary package offered is 5 LPA. Students were mostly offered roles of analysts and economists as per their course. Regarding internships, Presidency University doesn't provide in-built amenities and opportunities for internships. However, from time to time there are notifications circulated amongst students about internships elsewhere, where interested students may join. Moreover, the college helps in covering the missed out classes and attendance.
Infrastructure: Presidency University has a sprawling campus, right in the heart of Kolkata. It is located in College Street, this university (previously college) has immense historical importance. The old design and architecture add to its heritage. However, much renovation has done to make it look good. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. There is a lush green football ground, where many inter-college, inter-department events are conducted. There is a newly inaugurated cricket pitch along with a dedicated badminton court, table tennis, and carrom board. Almost all classrooms are air-conditioned and well-lit. Classrooms are very spacious and huge. The seating arrangement is hierarchical for better view and convenience of students even from the back. There is a dedicated girl's common room with medical facilities and sanitary napkin vending machine. Medical facilities are available on the campus. There is a central library, arts library, and a science library, and these are open from 10 am to 5:30 pm on every working day. The collection of books is extensive, including but not limited to rare and old books. Labs are air-conditioned and well-equipped with all modern equipment and instruments. There are separate labs for physics, chemistry, life sciences and computers. The quality of the food served is great, and the best thing is it's affordable. There are 3 canteens presently with a variety of menu at pocket-friendly prices. Hostel facilities are available both for boys and girls. Hindu hostel located right opposite to Presidency University. It is a huge building with spacious rooms for male students. The hostel for female students is located in Salt Lake City. Hostel rooms are fantastic, and the college provides transportation facilities for students to commute from hostel to campus. As reported from the majority, the quality of food served in both hostels are great, and it is hygienic and tasty.
Faculty: Professors at Presidency University are highly qualified. They are at least qualified with PhDs. They are highly knowledgeable. Professors are extremely helpful, caring and friendly. They can be approached anytime between 10 am to 5:10 pm. Every topic is extensively taught, starting from the very basics to high-level concepts with a lot of dedicated time after each concept and chapter. The student to faculty ratio ranges from 28:1 to 40:1 or sometimes 50:1. The ratio is standard across all departments. The course curriculum and structure has recently been updated. Every year is divided into 2 semesters and internal assessments for every semester. The marking scheme may vary across departments, but the structure remains the same. For the economics department, the marking structure is like internal assessment (20 marks), assignment (10 marks), and final written paper (70 marks). The internal assessment is what is called the mid-exams. The course consists of 2 major papers, one general elective (minor) and one skill development course. Presidency University doesn't provide industry exposure. However, students are provided with information about internships and projects.
Other: Since the student union has recently been banned, the annual fest named Milieu is no longer conducted on the campus. However, there are two major fests conducted on the campus from both political councils. ICON is conducted by Independent Consolidate, and ISPAT is conducted by SFI. There are innumerable events conducted on the campus ranging from football tournaments, badminton tournaments, cricket tournaments (both interdepartmental and inter-college). Even many events are conducted to promote social awareness and speak up for social issues. Movie screenings, face painting, creative writing, debating, treasure hunt, are some of the most exciting among all the events. The campus is very well connected. It can be reached both by bus and metro routes. Metro is the more convenient option, and the nearest metro station is Central. Scholarships are not provided here. However, the fees are extremely low and nominal. Fees are collected semi-annually, and currently, it is around Rs. 900. For extra-curricular activities, the college has different societies like debating society, football club, cricket club, etc. Students may join in any of the clubs of their interest. Presidency University is a very open, gender-sensitive and accepting campus. There's no ragging, humiliation, or harassment of any kind.
