Thapar University offers four-year full-time BE/BTech courses at the undergraduate level. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology admission to all the BE/BTech courses is based on candidates' performance in the JEE Main entrance exam except BTech in Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering. TIET BTech admission to Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering is based on valid NEET 2023 marks, followed by a counselling process. TIET 50% of the seats will be filled basis of NEET scores and the rest 50% of the seats shall be filled on the basis of merit of marks obtained in Class 12 or equivalent examination in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Chemistry and, Biology.

Although admission to BE/ BTech programme at TIET is conducted through JEE Main.  Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology accepts JEE Main scores as well as merit for admisison to the BE/ BTech courses. Based on the JEE Main score and Class 12 scores, candidates are then called for the TIET Counselling process. Admissions for vacant seats (if any) in subsequent rounds of counselling is done based on All India rank (AIR) of JEE Main 2023 as a tie breaker. During the counselling, Branch allocation is as per the Category, followed by JEEMain/ Class 10 + Class 12 PCM wise, seat availability, merit, and branch preference order filled in
the application form.

According to the NIRF report 2025 released, BTech median package recorded in 2024 was 10 LPA. In 2023, the median package was 11.89 LPA. CSE average package recorded in recent past was 14 LPA. For Electronics and Instrumentation department, the average package in 2023 was 10.7 LPA. 

Thapar University admission to most of the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses is based on candidates' performance in several national-level entrance exams. For TIET BTech admission, candidates must have class 12 and a valid JEE Main score. Apart from JEE Main, TIET also accepts CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT/GMAT/GRE/ Thapar Entrance Test for MBA and GATE for ME/ M.Tech admission. 

Thapar University cutoff 2025 via JEE Main has been released for B.E./BTech courses in the form of opening and closing ranks. As per the Thapar University JEE Main cutoff 2025, the cutoff rank needed between 46226 and 223330. Similarly, the needed rank for OBC All India quota for one and only course, CSE, is 46226. Yes, Thapar University offers a hostel and various other facilities to students. There are separate hostels for boys and girls.
