Thapar University admission to BE/BTech courses is both entrance and merit-based. TIET 50% seats will be filled on the basis of candidates' performance in the JEE Main entrance exam and the rest 50% is based on the merit of marks secured in Class 12 or equivalent examination in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject. So, for JEE-qualified candidates, the minimum eligibility is to pass Class 12 or equivalent examination with a minimum aggregate of 60% (55% for SC/ ST candidates). Candidates applying on the basis of their Class 12 marks must have passed the examination with not less than 70% marks (65% for SC/ST candidates).

Thapar University offers a four-year full-time BE/BTech course in Computer Science & Engineering at the undergraduate level. TIET offers a BTech CSE programme with a total seat intake of 180 students. The total tuition fee for TIET BTech CSE course is INR 14.58Lacs (As per an unofficial source). Talking about the placement of Thapar University BTech course, the median package offered was INR 8 LPA during TIET placements 2021. Considering the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2023, TIET was ranked 20 in the Engineering category. So, considering all these factors TIET is not a bad option for BTech CSE admission.

Thapar University BE/BTech fee range between INR 8.85 Lakh and INR 14.58 lakh. The fee mentioned here is the total tuition fee and is taken from an unofficial source. Hence, is indicative. Apart from the mentioned tuition fee, candidates are also required to pay a one-time fee of INR 23,000 which includes the admission fee and institute security. Both the colleges are equally good, but I will vote for Thapar University, Patiala because of the standard which the University has maintained since its establishment. I will try to distinguish between both colleges with the help of certain parameters:

• ADMISSION PROCESS: Thapar University admits its students on the basis of JEE main marks. Usually cutoff goes higher for Computer engineering (around 180). While SRM University conducts its own examination called SRMJEE.
• CAMPUS: SRM University has a very good and beautiful campus. Student intake is higher at SRM University. 
• Thaper don't have any management quota seat whereas SRM had few seats reserved for the management quota. The fee is almost similar in both colleges. And location-wise Chennai has the upper hand over Patiala.

Thapar University admission to most of the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses is based on candidates' performance in several national-level entrance exams. For TIET BTech admission, candidates must have class 12 and a valid JEE Main score. Apart from JEE Main, TIET also accepts CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT/GMAT/GRE/ Thapar Entrance Test for MBA and GATE for ME/ M.Tech admission. 

Thapar University BE admissions are based on a valid JEE Main score. Based on the JEE score, TIET conducts the online counselling process for seat allocation. Talking about Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology cutoff 2023, the Round 2 closing ranks ranged between 21599 and 92183 for BE courses. So, considering the latest cutoff trends, student can get CSE at Thapar University with 50000. Thapar University cutoff 2025 via JEE Main has been released for B.E./BTech courses in the form of opening and closing ranks. As per the Thapar University JEE Main cutoff 2025, the cutoff rank needed between 46226 and 223330. Similarly, the needed rank for OBC All India quota for one and only course, CSE, is 46226.
