Candidates seeking admission to PhD are either required to appear for PhD Entrance Test (PET) conducted by the university for admission. Also, those with a valid score in NET/ SET/ GATE/ JRF examination of the apex bodies in such as CSIR NET/ UGC NET/ ICAR for admission are exempted from the PET conducted by MU and are offered admission on the basis of these afore-mentioned exams. As part of the eligibility criteria, students must have completed their masters' degree with at least 55% aggregate. The selection procedure for the PhD admission at MU is as follows:

Step 1: The candidate's application form is screened and shortlisted based on students' academic record and research aptitude.

Step 2: The shortlisted candidates are then called for an interview and the final selection is based on their performance in the interview and the PET/ other relevant accepting entrance exam.
