VIT hosts World Engineering Education Forum 2019
November 14, 2019: The 9th World Engineering Education Forum (WEEF) 2019 was inaugurated at Chennai on November 14. This prestigious event, hosted by the VIT University Chennai - Vellore Institute of Technology took place for the first time in India. The Conference Theme this year was “Disruptive Engineering Education for Sustainable Development”. The event witnessed participation of people across domains such as engineers, teachers, leaders, students, businessmen, and people from government and non-government organisations. All the participants came together at WEEF, the world's largest technology learning activity in the world, to learn about, discuss and create productive, long-term partnerships. The conference's focus was "Sustainable Technology Learning".
Founder and Chancellor, VIT, Dr G Viswanathan delivered the presidential address. Executive Director, Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Dr Michael Milligan was invited as the chief guest for the event.
Dr G Viswanathan said closing down engineering colleges would not be a wise move, especially at a time when the Prime Minister of India wanted to double the Gross Enrolment Ratio in Higher Education in India from 26 per cent at present to 50 per cent in the next six years. Stating that India had 3,309 engineering colleges with an annual intake of 1.6 million seats, he also said that the enrolment was coming down by about 80,000 every year. He said the national regulatory body – the All India Council for Technical Education, wanted to close down about 800 colleges.
VIT Welcomes Smriti Zubin Irani for Convocation’19
November 12, 2019: VIT celebrated the Convocation’19 along with inauguration of Mahatma Gandhi Auditorium, a 2,500 seating-capacity Gymnatorium.
Minister for Women & Child Development, Government of India, Smriti Zubin Irani inaugurated the auditorium and delivered the convocation address. The annual convocation was presided by Dr. G. Viswanathan. On the occasion, President and Chief Executive Officer of Indian Bank Ms Padmaja Chunduru, was the guest of honor.
The event also witnessed the presence of eminent personalities such as Vice President VIT G V Selvam, Pro Vice Chancellors, VIT Vellore Dr S Narayanan and Pro Vice Chancellors VIT Chennai Dr V S Kanchana Bhaaskaran.

Many college students with comparable ranks were given CSE there.
