VIT Vellore PhD Courses & Fees 2026: Admission Dates & Eligibility

VIT University, Vellore offers PhD at the doctoral level. The programme is offered under Internal (Full-Time), Internal (Part-Time) & External (Part-Time) modes. Usually, students can appear for VITREE, conducted by the VIT Vellore to secure admission to the PhD programme. The university offers PhD in several streams, such as Science, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Fashion Technology and Management.

• Students looking for admission to PhD are evaluated based on the overall merit index of the candidate which is arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at master’s level and the performance in the written test, research output and/ the performance in PI round at VIT.
• Students, who have already qualified in CSIR NET/ GATE/ UGC NET/ or any other national-level entrance test, will get a direct call for the PI from the respective department of the Deemed University

The min. period of study & research from the date of registration for the PhD course to the date of submission of the thesis is 30 months for full-time research scholars and 36 months for part-time research scholars.

Selection criteria: Final selection of the students is done on the basis of the overall merit of the candidate in the previous qualifying examination at master’s level and performance in the written test, followed by research output and performance in a personal interview.
