Why is NATA easier than JEE Main Paper 2?
NATA is easier than JEE Main Paper 2 for many students because of the following reasons.
Type of Questions: Many questions in NATA assess the creativity and visual judgement instead of multistep calculations. In the drawing sections, marks are given for clarity, originality and presentation. Whereas the JEE Main Paper 2 involves mathematical calculations.
Focus and Scope: NATA mainly focus on evaluating the drawing ability, observation skills, basic mathematics, proportion, perspective and architectural awareness. NATA syllabus is relatively focused and emphasises design and visual aptitude.
Skill Requirement: The skill requirement is different for both exams. Clearing the NATA exam will depend on the spatial visualisation, freehand sketching, composition and basic arithmetic rather than advanced mathematics or physics. Students with strong artistic skills and design abilities often find NATA more manageable.
Lower Competition: Although NATA is a competitive exam, the number of candidates appearing is much lower and more specialised compared to the other competitive entrance exams.
Why is JEE Main Paper 2 harder than NATA?
Let's check here why the JEE Main Paper 2 syllabus is tougher than NATA.
- Wide and In-depth Syllabus: The JEE Paper 2 exam covers a broad range of topics. It requires strong problem-solving skills, quick and accurate reasoning.
- High-Level Competition: A large number of students appear for JEE Main every year. Very few students qualify for JEE Advanced, and even a smaller number get a seat in IITs. As a result, the JEE Main BArch cutoff is high, and the competition is intense.
- Challenging Questions and Time Management Pressure: The JEE Advanced exam includes complex questions that test the conceptual understanding and creative thinking. This has to be done within strict time limits.
- Complex Mathematical Problems: Many questions in JEE require deep mathematical reasoning and advanced analytical thinking, which can make the exam more demanding compared to aptitude-based tests.

Plan Preparation Accordingly: For JEE Main, focus more on mathematical concepts and practice timed problem solving. For NATA, focus on freehand drawing, proportions, design concepts and history of architecture.
Preparing for Both Exams: Some students attempt both. In that case, divide the preparation time accordingly. Spend time on quantitative practice for JEE Main while regularly practising drawing and design skills.
