Ever dreamt of making smart cars? Now you can, with an MTech in Advanced Vehicles
Over the last two decades, the evolution of intelligent vehicles has charted a very interesting course. Although the first ideas were conceptualised in the 1960s, technology was not mature enough then to pursue the original goal of implementing fully autonomous vehicles.
In the mid-1980s though, the first documented prototypes of advanced automated vehicles came to the fore. The interest was considerable, and understandably so, as fully autonomous intelligent vehicles were seen as superior in terms of safety, dealing with traffic congestion, and protecting the environment.
Current research efforts in the industry are aimed at developing intelligent vehicles in realistic scenarios. The automotive industry has prioritized the need to equip vehicles with supervised systems and, more broadly, advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).
How is the Advanced Vehicles Industry Doing?
Advanced vehicles are vehicles that eliminate the limitations imposed by the current nexus between the wheels, the drivetrain, and the chassis. Liberated wheels, intelligence, variable power sources, an adaptable vehicle structure, and enhanced survivability distinguish advanced vehicles.
The world of advanced vehicles promises to usher in new liberties. The Advanced Vehicles Industry is geared towards creating vehicles that will liberate our movement by increasing their agility, flexibility, strength, and connection to the environment.
The automotive industry plans to make a transit from a product-based industry to an automated service-based industry in which anyone can gain access to mobility at the lowest possible cost. Companies would provide both mass and individual transportation in the most cost-effective manner while adhering to local regulations. Leading companies in Germany, Switzerland, Japan, and the United States like Honda and Toyota are already preparing to produce automated vehicles.
India is the world's fifth-largest automobile manufacturing country, and it is expected to be the third-largest by 2026. The industry accounts for 7.1 percent of the total GDP of the country. The electric vehicle market in India is booming because of the government's incentive program and tax breaks. With an M.Tech. in Advanced Vehicles, one can pursue a career as any of the following:
- Automotive Design Engineer
- Production Engineer
- R&D Engineer
- Quality and Assurance Expert
- Vehicle Integration Expert
- Technical Sales Engineer
Why study MTech Advanced Vehicles at UPES?
The MTech Advanced Vehicles at UPES is a Master's Degree program designed for students interested in advanced learning and research in the field of automotive engineering, with a focus on electric vehicles, intelligence, connectivity, hybrid vehicles, and advanced fuel.
The emphasis of the program is on carrying out original research and writing a thesis that reports on the findings. The program is designed to allow students to specialize in any topic of interest by taking elective courses and working on a research project in that area.
UPES offers the following benefits to students who choose to study MTech in Advanced Vehicles:
- Acquire in-depth knowledge of a specific discipline and a global perspective, as well as the ability to discriminate, evaluate, analyze, and synthesize existing and new knowledge, and to integrate the same for knowledge pool enhancement.
- Use collaboration to foster multidisciplinary scientific research, as well as decision-making abilities in order to achieve common goals.
- Learn to critically analyze complex engineering problems and use independent judgment to synthesize information in order to make intellectual and creative advances for conducting research in a broader theoretical, practical, and policy context.
- Develop professional and intellectual integrity, a professional code of conduct, research, and scholarship ethics, an understanding of the impact of research outcomes on professional practices, and a sense of responsibility to contribute to the community for the long-term development of society.
- Think laterally and creatively, conceptualise and solve engineering problems, evaluate a wide range of potential solutions to those problems, and arrive at feasible, optimal solutions after taking into account, public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental factors in core areas of expertise.
- Extract information through literature, survey and experiments, application of appropriate research methodologies, techniques and tools, design, experiments, data analysis and interpretation, individual/group(s) contribution to the development of scientific/technological knowledge in one or more engineering domains.
- Create, select, learn, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modeling, to complex engineering activities while being aware of their limitations.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of project management and finance in respective disciplines and multidisciplinary environments while taking economic and financial factors into account.
- Confidently and effectively communicate with the engineering community and society about complex engineering activities and give and receive clear instructions.
- Observe and critically examine the outcomes of one's actions, take corrective measures as needed, and learn from mistakes without relying on external feedback.
- Recognize the need for and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent life-long learning, with a high level of enthusiasm and commitment to continuously improving knowledge and competence.
To ensure the best learning outcomes for students, UPES believes in offering innovative course delivery with digital experience, field visits, model making, research-based learning, and project-based learning. UPES has partnered with Coursera, an online Learning Management System that gives students access to world-class courses from leading universities around the world, taught by top-tier academicians.
