IIM Ahmedabad has announced the selection criteria for 2022-2024 MBA batch, CAT 2021 cut off and admission process. IIM Ahmedabad MBA admission process includes shortlisting of candidates on the basis of CAT 2020 score, Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) round. IIM Ahmedabad has made no significant changes to its admission policy as compared to 2021. However, the institute has decided to award less weightage to CAT 2021 exam score in shortlisting and final selection process for MBA admission 2022. The weight for CAT 2021 score is reduced to 65% in shortlisting and to 25% in the final selection round. IIM Ahmedabad is in a position to accommodate less than 0.1% of the PGP applicants who have applied for CAT 2021. But, the non-engineers and the candidates from diverse backgrounds, planning to appear in CAT 2021 stand a good chance to get into IIM Ahmedabad at a CAT 2021 percentile of 80 and above.

IIM Ahmedabad MBA Admission Criteria 2022-24

As per IIM Ahmedabad selection criteria, the PGP selection process takes place in two stages, which include Preliminary Screening and shortlisting for Analytical Writing Test (AWT) & Personal Interview (PI) rounds. These stages are discussed below in detail:

 1. PRELIMINARY SCREENING

For preliminary screening, which includes shortlisting of candidates for AWT and PI, IIM Ahmedabad has fixed qualifying CAT cut offs for all the categories. Candidates need to fulfil the below-mentioned qualifying CAT/ GMAT cut off percentile to be eligible for AWT-PI round of IIM Ahmedabad PGP admission 2022-24:

IIM Ahmedabad calculates the AR score and uses it during the various stages of application process (AWT and PI). AR is calculated as follows:

Application Rating (AR) score = Class 10 Score + Class 12 Score + Graduation Score + Work Experience (A+B+C+D)

Once AR is calculated, a 'Normalised AR' score for candidates is calculated using the below-given formula:

Normalised AR score = Total AR score of candidate/ Average of top 50 AR scores from the applicants' pool*

*The applicants' pool, in this case, is the group of candidates who appeared for CAT 2021 and applied for IIM Ahmedabad admissions.

 2. SHORTLISTING FOR AWT AND PI ROUNDS

Shortlisting for Analytical Writing Test (AWT) & Personal Interview (PI) rounds are carried out in two stages. Read below to check out details regarding these stages:

Stage 1: Selection of exceptional performers across different streams from the applicant's pool

IIM Ahmedabad recognises exceptional performers across diverse academic backgrounds as per their past academic records and CAT score. A certain number of top candidates from each of the academic streams are shortlisted for AWT and PI rounds on the basis of their Composite Score (CS) subject to their fulfilling C1-C6 criteria. The CS is calculated as follows:

CS (Composite Score) = (ARF_CS x Normalised AR score) + (CATF_CS x Normalised overall score in CAT 2020)

Legend:

  • AR Multiplication Factor for Composite Score (ARF_CS) = 35
  • CAT Multiplication Factor for Composite Score (CATF_CS) = 65

Once the CS is calculated, Upper Limits (UL) on the number of candidates to be shortlisted per RC for AC-1, AC-2, AC-3, AC-5 and Upper Limits (UL) on the number of candidates to be shortlisted per RC for AC-4 is as mentioned in the following tables.

Stage 2: Shortlisting based on C1-C6 criteria

As mentioned above, from each of the academic categories (AC) for which the total number of IIM Ahmedabad applicants who appeared for CAT 2020 from SC/ ST/ NC-OBC/ PwD categories will be shortlisted for AWT and PI on the basis of the composite score ‘CS' (calculated as per above-given table) subject to their fulfilling criteria C1-C3. The criteria details are as follows:

  • C1: PVRC, PDILR, PQA and PT must not be lower than the minimum cut-offs as specified in the minimum qualifying CAT cutoff table
  • P ≥ Minimum cut-offs, where P is the average of the aggregate scored in Class 10 and Class 12

  • C3: Aggregate in UG degree ≥ Minimum cutoff percentage, to be set at 80 percentile of the percentage of marks of the respective ACRC group of the applicants' pool
  • C4: PT ≥ 80, PQA ≥ 70, PDILR ≥ 70 and PVRC ≥
  • C5: P ≥ 80 (Science), 77 (Commerce), 75 (Arts/ Humanities), where P is the average of the aggregate obtained in Class 10 and Class 12
  • C6: Aggregate in UG degree ≥ Minimum cutoff percentage, to be set at 80 percentile of the percentage of marks of the respective AC group of the applicants' pool

 3. FINAL SELECTION

Candidates, fulfilling all the above-mentioned shortlisting criteria and fulfilling all minimum cutoff requirements, are selected on the basis of the Final Composite Score (FCS). The FCS of a candidate is computed as follows:

FCS = (PIF x Normalised PI Score) + (AWTF x Normalised AWT Score) + (CATF_FCS x Normalised CAT Score) + (ARF_FCS x AR)

Legend:

  • Personal Interview Multiplication Factor (PIF) = 0.50
  • AWT Multiplication Factor (AWTF) = 0.10
  • CAT Score Multiplication Factor for Final Composite Score (CATF_FCS) = 0.25
  • Application Rating Multiplication Factor for Final Composite Score (ARF_FCS) = 0.15
