IIT Patna Cutoff 2017: Category-wise JEE Advanced Cutoff Ranks

For 2022, cut off was 10861 for General category candidates in All India quota for B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering in IIT Patna - Indian Institute of Technology. For female candidates in general category under All India quota, 19143 was the closing rank. B.Tech cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.

IIT Patna offer various BTech specialisations through JEE Advanced exam scores. Among all the courses offered by IIT Patna, BTech in AI and DS was one of the most popular course. The category-wise cutoff for the same course is given in the table below:

The official JAM 2025 Round 1 admission data released by IIT Patna indicates a strong demand for the MSc in Chemistry programme among General category applicants. Over the past three years, the cutoff rank has moved from 446 in 2023 to 419 in 2025. These figures clearly show that students aiming for Chemistry at IIT Patna need to secure a rank well under 400. Moreover, if we talk about other courses, the cutoff remain competitive. So, getting a rank of 560 in IIT JAM is not at all enough to secure any course under General AI quota. IIT Patna cutoff 2025 for MSc courses stood between 419 and 454 for the General AI category candidates. However, if any candidate belongs to any reserved category then there are higher chances to get a course at IIT Patna at 560 rank.

The IIT Patna MSc cutoff 2024 has been released for Round 1, wherein the most competitive specialisation is M.Sc. in Mathematics with a closing rank of 515 for the General AII India category students. The least competitive course is M.Sc. in Physics with a cutoff rank of 556. So, candidates seeking admission to any of the MSc courses must secure a rank up to 556 to be eligible for IIT Patna. 

IIT Patna admission to the MSc course is based on IIT JAM scores, followed by the IIT JAM counselling process. Only candidates on the JAM 2024 merit list based on JAM 2024 scorecard will be eligible to apply for admission. 

The cutoff trend for BTech at IIT Patna has been increasing in the recent years. In 2021, the closing rank for B.Tech. under general category for all India quota was 14216. In 2022, it increased to 14895. Likewise, the cut off ranks have changed from 5243 to 5285 for OBC, 2861 to 2793 for SC, 2861 to 1336 for ST, 2046 to 2226 for EWS. This trend is likely to continue in the coming years, as the demand for engineering education in India continues to grow. Similar cut off trend can be seen for female candidates under all categories however the ranks are slightly different.

Candidates are offered seat in IIT Patna BTech CSE programme based on their JEE Advanced rank. Looking at the past three-year closing rank, the cutoffs has a declining trend. The closing rank was 2811 in 2023, 3144 in 2024 and 3377 in 2025.
