Physics Topics Not in CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2027
Some Physics topics are still in the syllabus. But they will not come in the board exam. Many students call this the CBSE Class 10 Physics deleted syllabus. Schools will check these topics through class work and school tests.
| Unit | Topic Not in Board Exam |
|---|---|
| IV | Electric Motor |
| IV | Electromagnetic Induction |
| IV | Electric Generator |
A few smaller parts are also left out. These are listed below.
- Students do not need to prove the mirror formula.
- Students do not need to prove the lens formula.
- The colour of the sun at sunrise and sunset is not included.
- Information given in boxes in the NCERT book will not be checked in the board exam.
Teachers may still ask students to read these topics. Students may write short notes on them in their portfolio. A portfolio is a file of their school work.
Commonly asked questions
No. CBSE does not release a separate Physics PDF for 10th Class. Physics is part of the Science syllabus PDF (code 086). The Physics topics are in Unit III and Unit IV.
Physics carries 25 out of 80 theory marks. Unit III Natural Phenomena has 12 marks. Unit IV Effects of Current has 13 marks.
There are four Physics chapters. These are Light: Reflection and Refraction, The Human Eye and the Colourful World, Electricity, and Magnetic Effects of Electric Current.
Electric Motor, Electromagnetic Induction and Electric Generator will not come in the board exam. Students also do not need to prove the mirror and lens formulas.
Physics Section in CBSE Class 10 Science Exam Pattern 2027
Physics is the last section of the Science paper. Students must answer all questions. Some questions have an OR option. Learn more about board exam formats on the CBSE 10th Pattern page.
The table below shows where Physics sits in the paper.
| Section | Subject | Question Numbers | Total Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Biology | 1 to 16 | 16 | 30 |
| B | Chemistry | 17 to 29 | 13 | 25 |
| C | Physics | 30 to 39 | 10 | 25 |
| Total | 39 | 80 |
The next table shows the types of questions in the full Science paper.
| Question Type | Marks per Question | Total Questions | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multiple Choice | 1 | 16 | 16 |
| Assertion-Reason | 1 | 4 | 4 |
| Short Questions | 2 | 6 | 12 |
| Short Questions | 3 | 7 | 21 |
| Case-based Questions | 4 | 3 | 12 |
| Long Questions | 5 | 3 | 15 |
| Total | 39 | 80 |
CBSE also sets marks by skill. Half the paper (50%) tests knowledge and understanding. Another 30% tests how students use concepts. The last 20% asks them to analyse and evaluate. About 33% of the paper gives an OR option. The 2026 question paper also gave 15 minutes of reading time.
CBSE Class 10 Physics Practical Syllabus
Five of the 14 Science practicals come from Physics. Students should do them along with theory classes.
| Unit | Physics Practical |
|---|---|
| IV | Study how potential difference (V) changes with current (I) in a resistor. Find its resistance and draw a V-I graph |
| IV | Find the equivalent resistance of two resistors in series and in parallel |
| III | Find the focal length of a concave mirror and a convex lens using a distant object |
| III | Trace the path of light through a rectangular glass slab. Measure the angles of incidence, refraction and emergence |
| III | Trace the path of light rays through a glass prism |
Practical work carries 5 marks in internal assessment. Internal assessment has 20 marks in total. It has four parts. These are Periodic Assessment, Multiple Assessment, Portfolio and Practical Work. Each part carries 5 marks.

Preparation Tips for CBSE Class 10 Physics Syllabus 2026-27
Physics has many formulas, diagrams and numericals. More study ideas are on the CBSE 10th Preparation page. A few simple tips are given below.
- Keep one page for all formulas, like the mirror formula, lens formula and Ohm's law.
- Practise ray diagrams for mirrors, lenses and the prism again and again.
- Solve numericals on power of a lens, resistance and electric power every week.
- Learn the units of each quantity. Many students lose marks here.
- Read the NCERT book line by line, including the examples.
- Solve the 2026-27 sample paper and the 2026 question paper within 3 hours.
- Do the five Physics practicals with care. They help in theory questions too.
The CBSE 10th Class Physics Syllabus 2027 is short but carries good weight. Four chapters give 25 marks in Section C. Light and electricity are the main areas. A few topics, like the electric motor, will not come in the board exam. Students should focus on formulas, diagrams and numericals. Regular practice with sample papers will help them write the Physics section with confidence.
