CBSE's reconsideration on the conduction of the pending CBSE 12th exams will bring a major change in the passing criteria of the 12th board exams. Read further to know more. 

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared its decision on the conduction of the pending papers of the CBSE 12th Board Exams 2020. The Board agreed on the fact that conducting CBSE Board Exams 2020 amid the ongoing pandemic situation is no less than putting the lives of the students at stake. Agreeing to the Supreme Court's decision to reconsider its decision regarding the conduction of the CBSE Class 12 exams amid the ongoing pandemic crisis, the Board made the CBSE 12th Board Exams optional. CBSE gave the students an option to opt-out of the 12th board exams and get their CBSE 12th Results based on internal exams. Earlier, the HRD Minister announced that the pending CBSE 12th Board Exams will be conducted between July 1 and July 15, and the CBSE 12th Results 2020 will be released by August 15. The current decision majorly affects the release of the CBSE 12th results 2020. Now, as the CBSE 12th Board Exams 2020 are optional, the CBSE 12th Results 2020 will be released on the basis of internal assessment.

CBSE 12th Passing Criteria

CBSE's reconsidered the conduction of the pending papers of the CBSE 12th Board Exams which changes the passing criteria of the CBSE 12th exams. As the current decision states that CBSE 12th Board Exams are optional, students can either choose to appear for the examination or can simply decides to get his/her CBSE 12th Results 2020 based on internal assessment. However, the board is yet to release details on the declaration of the CBSE 12th results 2020. According to the reports, the CBSE 12th Results 2020 will be released by mid-August. Students will be informed regarding all the changes made in passing criteria after the decision will be taken. Until then, let's talk about the usual passing criteria of CBSE 12th Board Exams.

In order to clear the CBSE board exams and get “pass” written on their CBSE 12th marksheet after the release of CBSE 12th Results 2020, students must fulfill the criteria mentioned below:

  • Should secure a grade higher than ‘E’ (that is, at least 33% marks) in all the CBSE 12th five subjects of external exams in the main (or compartmental exams)
  • For practical work-related subjects, candidates should secure 33% marks in theory and 33% marks in practical. Apart from this, aspirants should have secured at least 33% marks in aggregate

Aspirants would be given a pass certificate by the Board if they get a grade above 'E' in all subjects of internal assessment (unless he/she is exempted).

CBSE 12th Results 2020: Check CBSE 12th Subject-wise Passing Marks Criteria Below:

CBSE class 12 Result 2020: How to calculate CBSE 12th Result percentage

In order to calculate the percentage of CBSE 12th results 2020, students have to add their marks of the five subjects (their best-five marks) and divide the total by 5. For example, a student secures the following marks in his/her five main subjects: 

Subject 1: 80

Subject 2: 85 

Subject 3: 87

Subject 4: 92

Subject 5: 95

Step 1: add the marks of all the five main subjects: 80+85+87+92+95= 439

Step 2: Divide the sum by 5

439/5 = 87.8% will be the percentage of your board result

To be eligible for CG PET admission, all students should have passed 12th standard (or equivalent) qualifying entrance examination with Maths, Physics and Chemistry. A minimum of 45% marks should have been scored in the exam (40% for reserved category).
