EMAT syllabus outlines the section-wise important topics that candidates need to cover. The EMAT 2026 syllabus is based on topics such as Quantitative Aptitude and Numerical Ability, Reasoning and General Intelligence and General Management. Q:   Is the syllabus for EMAT and CAT same?
A: 

Yes, the syllabus for EMAT and CAT is same. Candidates preparing for CAT will require only revision during the EMAT exam. As per EMAT exam pattern, the question paper is divided into following sections viz., logical reasoning, numerical & data interpretation and verbal skills. Similarly, CAT question paper is divided into the following sections  viz., Verbal ability and reading comprehension, data interpretation and logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude. CAT has sectional time limit whereas, EMAT does not have sectcional time limit. Candidates can switch between sections as per their preference. The number of questions vary in both the exams however the difficulty level of both exams is moderate.

Q:   When will the EMAT registration begin?
A: 

EMAT 2026 registrations has commenced online. Candidates can fill the EMAT 2026 application form in online and offline modes. The registration link has been activated on the official website of IIM Kozhikode. Candidates willing to appear for EMAT exam must fill the online application form on or before the last date. EMAT 2026 registration process will be conducted in four phases. The second phase has commenced. The complete schedule for EMAT 2026 was released by IIM Kochi.

Q:   What is the exam date of EMAT?
A: 

Executive Management Aptitude Test (EMAT) is conducted by IIM Kozhikode for admission to Executive PGP of IIM Kochi. EMAT is coducted four times in a year. Candidates can appear for the EMAT exam as per their preference. EMAT 2026 exam dates have been announced. The exam will be conducted in offline mode. Candidates must report at the alloted exam centre on the day of the examination. Check the table below to know the updated EMAT 2026 exam dates for each phase.

Q:   Is there any negative marking in the EMAT exam?
A: 

No, there is no negative marking for any wrong answer or not attenpted question in EMAT exam. As per the Executive Management Aptitude Test (EMAT) marking scheme for every correct answer candidate will get one mark and for no marks will be deducted for any wrong answers like other management entrance tests- CAT. There will be no negative marking for unattempted questions. As per the EMAT exam pattern, the question paper will consist of 60 Multiple Choice Questions, of one mark each. There will be no sectional time limit. Candidates can start answering from any section they are comfortable with. The EMAT exam is conducted for a duration of one hour.

Q:   Are there subjective-type questions in the EMAT exam?
A: 
No, the EMAT will not have subjective-type questions. EMAT is a computer based test inclusive of 30 multiple choice questions (MCQs) that candidates must answer in one hour. Each question will have four options, candidates will be required select the correct answer.
EMAT exam covers three sections
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • General Management & Reasoning
  • General Intelligence.
The EMAT exam is designed to assess a candidate's knowledge and skills in related fields. Topics often covered include the country of your choice of second language, Economics, Politics, Culture, Philosophy, Literature, and current affairs.
The EMAT exam is conducted offline. Candidates receive one mark for each correct answer and negative marking of 0.5 mark for each wrong answer.
Q:   Does EMAT has sectional time limit?
A: 

No, EMAT exam does not have sectional time limit to appear for the exam. However, students will be required to complete the exam in pre informed exam duration i.e, two hours and no extra time will be granted to the students under any circumstances. EMAT is a computer-based online exam the test screen will move from first section to the next section only when the candidate clicks the next button. Candidates have to be mindful of the on-screen timer and pre-decide the number of questions to solve in each section as there will be negative markings. It is not mandatory to solve all the questions in EMAT exam so candidates can devise a strategy to use the exam duration as per their strength and weakness. Candidates must reach the exam centre at least an hour prior to complete the frisking formalities at the EMAT exam centre.
